Message: But after you add the decals, tinted windows (must match car color), low profile tries, ugly rims, big fat motocycle sounding muffler, and a huge useless wing, the hp is now somewhere near 300+, I swear!
And so do all those ricers.

Message: According to ai-online, Chrysler will build an all-new 5.7 liter V8 with hemi heads - in short, a 354 Hemi - in late 2001. This engine, which is revolutionary in its retrospective technology, will replace the 5.9 liter V8 (360) at long last.
Dual spark plugs are used to speed fuel combustion, making the engine more powerful and efficient while decreasing emissions (though not down to ULEV levels). A cylinder deactivation system, which does not appear to be related to systems used by Mercedes, prevents fuel from being wasted when the engine is under light loads. AI-Online also noted that the Hemi has double rocker shafts in each head, like its predecessors, but has valve gear within the head walls.
Like the original Hemi, it will produce about one horsepower per cubic inch, if its output is similar to its concept version in the 300C Roadster. To be fair, this level of power is no longer rare.
The 5.7, like its LA predecessors, has a cast iron cylinder block; however, it weighs less and is smaller than the 5.9. It was designed with a single in-block camshaft and only two valves per cylinder, resulting in very low production costs; development and production costs, in fact, are supposed to be less than the new 4.7 liter Mopar V8 which started production last year.
The two-valve-per-cylinder design means not only lower production costs, but also better low-end torque, which is a good selling point considering the high-revving nature of most current generation engines.
The Hemi is designed for trucks, but most likely will be used in 2004 large sedans with rear wheel drive. Currently, two names bandied about are Charger and 300.
The Hemi will be built in Saltillo, Mexico, starting at 300,000 units per year but possibly rising. A 383 cid version has been rumored, on and off. The two sizes would strike a chord in the enthusiast community.

Message: Just our luck that it won't. But then again the report said it was going to replace the 5.9 litre's. So who knows. Maybe that includes the Dakota's. I sure hope so. Because that would be the only reason I would buy another Dakota that was built after 2000 (don't much care for the redesign features).

Message: Drove the new hemi in a 2003 ram 4x4 2500 series a few weeks ago. 345 horse, and you feel all of it. the exhaust alone will sell a few. I was real impressed, but I'm waiting for the rumored bigger Hemi that is going to replace the v-10, before I trade in on a new 2500. As far as the 5.7 liter in the Dakota, they say the Hemi will be available in it soon, as well as cherokee, and a new line of lx sedan rear wheel drives!

Message: I just talked to my dealer where I bought my R/T and they already have 1/2 ton 1500's with the hemi coming in daily. He says he can sell a 1500 stripped 5-speed with the hemi for 18900 or SLT with power lock, windows, ect and auto trans for about 20500. I considered trading my R/T but like he said, these full size with the hemi has regular suspension, taller profile, taller thinner tires, and no duel anit-sway bars. They will not handle like an R/T. They may have the big motor but its not sporty by any means and he says the R/T will still beat it off the line. The salesman pretty much talked me out of considering one. Ill wait til 2005 when the 354 short block hemi replaces the 5.9 in the R/T....October 2004 cant get here fast enough !!!

Message: Not to put down any dak or other dodge truck, I think the best thing if you want a good handling vehicle with an awesome design and power rating, wait until the Charger R/T comes back in 2004. 6.1 liter hemi in it, and of course it will have at least one hp/cubic inch...AT LEAST!!!! Dodge will not only have the awesomest higher priced sports car (Viper) but also the awesomest lower priced one as well. You can see the pics of it on dodge.com under concept vehicles. Truly the return of the muscle car era.
