I am leasing my truck, and the only way I have found to keep the miles off the ODO is to remove the fuse for the dash. You do lose all your gages, but everything still works. I am not sure if the computer is really fooled, but the ODO does not go up when you do this. I have the overhead console, so I still have some functions like how much gas is left and such. Hope this helps. The fuse is in the side of the dash, and is marked 'cluster' or something like that.

This is not only bad to do, but to even think of doing. Please keep these thoughts to yourself. I feel sorry for the poor soul who slaves all day but can only afford a used truck and ends up with your trash.
This kind of stuff will catch up to you eventually. You have to remember that God evens everything out in the end.

Message: Two thoughts:
1. The computer keeps up with lots more things than the dash board shows you. It is keeping up with the mileage.
B. Even if you racked up, say 90,000 miles and then plugged in the odometer (doing that is illegal on a federal felony level), then your truck would LOOK like a 90,000 mile beater with only 1,000 miles on the clock. Who in the hell wants to buy a truck that has saggy seats, bad brakes and worn out carpet after only 1,000 miles?
3. Like I said, it's a felony fraud and the Feds will take your ass down. Not just the county sheriff. So good luck with that fuse trick, there, Scooter Boy.

His average speed was only 38mph!!!

Message: Yeah this is getting fun. Actually the mileage is in the dash ( yes reprogrammable but not sure what it takes) and the pcm also programmable with the DRBIII (at least the one the dealer can read). Heck if the car you buy was once owned in another state chances are the odometer rolled back once it crossed state lines. And it is only a felony if you sign a statement that it is the actual mileage on the vehicle.
On another note EVERYONE on here who modifies their vehicle violates federal laws. Tampering with ANY pollution control system is a violation of federal law. WATCH OUT BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING.

Message: Last I checked uncle sam can not proscute you for failure to replace a fuse. I think it is only a crime if you tamper with the cluster itself or the ecm/pcm with the expressed intent to remove miles already reading on the cluster or stored in the ecm/pcm memory. If you know that more miles where on the odometer then are currently reading......

Message: Sandman this is true, but it seems kind of ironic for someone to let their cluster be inop for that long of a period. Plus no matter what the PCM does store the amount of mileage. Then you might slip up and bring your car in for service. They have a previous record of your mileage say 15k and it only says 15k and 1 mile then your busted.

Message: About what that one dude said about the saggy seats...if you take care of your car or truck it won't look like an old clunker...my dad had an 87 GT stang and it looked like he had just got off the dealership, cuz he took care of it. And if your about to sell it you can easily fool someone, just keep the oil changed, replace the brakes B 4 you sell it, wash it clean it up, its not that hard. OH and I think the main reason people wanna roll back the OD is because less miles means more money for the vehicle. If I was looking for a used car and I see a 1999 Dakota w/ 25,000 miles on it and I see a 1999 Dakota w/ 65,000 miles more than likely I'd choose the one w/ less miles. Thats why people wanna do that.

Message: JJJ ,
You stated "everyone on here who modifies their vehicle violates federal laws".
This is not true , if it were my local Dodge dealer would be talking to the FBI about all the Mopar Performance parts they install, and alot of aftermarket companies would be out of customers in a hurry .Replacing a part is legal and does not have to be oem. some parts can not be modified or replaced without being approved for use in your area or after the wananty runs out or they are damaged. Simply put you can't remove the stuff on the inside of your cat but you can remove some of the extra metal on the inside of your TB or intake.I have several mods on my truck and they are CARB legal and I have checked the local laws.Besides that I get much better fuel mileage (+5mpg from stock) and the stuff comming out of the tail pipe is cleaner now than when it was stock .

Ahhh... but you forget that the MOPAR parts have passed stringent EPA testing and that is why Dodge can sell them.
Some of the other (non MOPAR) aftermarket performance parts are NOT EPA certified... They often make more power... while sacrificing the envrionment.
Besides who gives a %@#@# about CARB... that is only for California... ;-)
You are correct that many mods (ie... porting the TB with dremel) are a win-win. Better performance AND no measureable effect on emmissions.

Message: Okay, I will speak from first hand experience. I was leasing a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic, and it had some kind of electrical problem that kept blowing the instrument cluster fuse.
The first time it happened I went a week before I could get it into the dealer, and I was driving without any gauges working.
They "fixed" the problem, and the odometer DIDN'T show any of the miles that I drove.
Two months later the problem came back, this time I went almost three weeks before I could get to the dealer. Again after they fixed the problem none of the miles accumulated on the odometer.
I turned in the lease a little over a month ago and had the inspection done on the vechicle. I got my security deposit back, and they didn't mention anything about the miles. I probably racked up an extra 1000 or so miles more than the odometer read.
Now I'm not saying go take out your fuse and drive across the country, but I am just sharing the experience that I had.

Message: Has anyone looked at a Mopar Performance catalog lately? Do you notice than when you buy a Mopar PCM, that you have to have the dealer program it for your VIN and mileage? Slightly illegal, but if you can get them to burn the PCM with about 10,000 miles less than what you really have, it may work. By the way, the guy who said "who gives a *&%$@ about CARB, its just california." Hello dumbass, what state has the toughest emisions laws??? If you pass California emissions, you'll pass in any state. Any some aftermarket parts will make your emissions improve. Anything that makes your engine more efficient, usually improves emissions. And to quote the great one..."Thats my $.02" (how many times can YOU say "emissions" in your next post)

For your information... many states DO NOT HAVE emmissions tests. If the lights and horn work.. you get a sticker. Emmissions are not a concern whatsever.
