How do you retrieve trouble codes from a Dakota? I have a 2000 QC 4x4 with the 5.9L and 3.92 gears.

Cycle the key three time and on the third time leave it on the code should be displayed in the odometer window. You can look them up on www.obdii.com.

Thanks CW!! Do you leave the battery hooked up when you do this? I know that you unhook the negative when you reset the PCM. I was just wondering if this is the same principle. I guess the odometer probably wouldn't read with the battery unhooked, however. Stupid question. Just cycle from off-to-on, and don't start. Is that correct?

I don't trust OBDII anymore. Or else I shouldn't trust Haynes repair mag. Both disagree. For my truck it says (OBDII) a cylinder #7 misfire, the book says tranny problem. The truck doesn't shift right and the torque converter won't unlock all the time. Wich is the right one......I wonder...
