Subject: Ripped off IP: Logged
Message: Hey Berned or anyone, I got this package from the dealer about three months ago. He said that they were going to put in a performance module. I was talking to berned and he said that the is no performance module out yet for 2001. Then berned said that the part number was a stock pcm. So that means they just re-programmed(maybe)?It says upgraded software. Should I go back to the dealer and reem him a new asshole about this. I want to make sure that there is really no performance module out yet. (Maybe the dealers get it before it comes out?) Any way I need as much feedback as possible before I go there and flip out on this fool.
Thanks

Message: Not only is there no performance PCM for your application, there has not even been a part number assigned to indicate they are going to build one. Even the ones for the 2000 model are not due out until this summer so if, by chance, they are going to build one for the 2001's, I wouldn't hold my breath. It probably won't be available until summer of 2002. It is possible that your dealer could have sent it in to the Mopar performance people to have it re-programmed, though I would suspect it's highly unlikely being that it's so new. The cost to do that is ~$500 if they have the new timing curves and fuel table specifications worked out. If that has been done you would probably have to use 92+ octane gas or you'd be pinging like crazy.
And by the way, it's Bernd.

Message: I dont know what the hell they did. I mean my car isnt slow (its pretty fast). I want to see what he says when I ask him about it. Also I run my truck with regular gas. He told me to just use regular. Once a month to use super.Should I make the change to super? Will I get better response? What kind of pinging?? When I start my car and it warms up I here a little ticking but I just think thats the belts and pulleys. If I had the mopar module it would be a different part #?? Also is having the computer reprogramed the same as getting a performance module?? I have all these f'in questions :) Ill tell you what, its immpossible to trust the dealer. I always have the feeling they are fuckin with me. Maybe its just me but I doubt it. Anyway all the info I get from you guys is much appreciated.

Message: Python...When the dealer updates the software in the PCM, they just reprogram it. They don't put any software that makes it go faster in it at all. I know because I work at a Dodge dealership when I am not at school. They do that because sometimes the engine will ping and it will only require a flash (reporgramming) to fix the problem. I know the Ram 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 has those problems a lot. I don't know if the 4.7 has any flashes for it or not. They do that so teh engine has the best fuel economy. Hope that helped you out!!

OH NO! Ron is here! "All hail to the King" ;) hehehehehehe
As for the PCM, I've checked and rechecked my sources. No 2001 PCM's available from Mopar...yet.

Message: It is possible to get your PCM programmed with high performance parameters but it's unlikely your dealer would be doing it. Of course, your dealer is doing some special aftermarket upgrades to your vehicle so you never know. In any case, like I said in my last post, your PCM is too new. There are no high performance upgrades available, not even custom made. As long as you don't have an HP PCM, running regular gas is fine unless you have a pinging problem and it doesn't sound like you do. I would advise against using a higher grade gas than is necessary for a couple reasons: 1) it's more expensive; 2) running with a higher octane fuel can hurt your engine more than it can help it because the higher the octane the harder it is to ignite the fuel and if it doesn't ignite or burn completely it'll foul out your plugs. Sometimes people like to mix a tank of premium in with the regular because they think they're adding really good stuff to okay stuff but that's not the way gasoline works.
Good luck with your dealer. It sounds like they advertised HP PCM to get people to buy the trucks. Bad news!

Message: Not to stir the pot any, but it would seem that every type of business is out to rip you off.
From Microsoft to your friendly corner grocery store.
Too bad that there are a selected few that give a bad rap for all of the others.
It's a buyer beware world.
Sounds like the loser dealership that ripped you off has lost your business, and the business of anybody you talk to. Their loss. Their future.
Hope it is not a 5 Star dealership, if so(even if it is not 5 star), then forward your complaint to the nearest Chrysler Zone office.
