im sitting here drinking a few brews reading all this crap...and thats what it is. lol you all like me now dont you? anyhow, if you like dodge..buy dodge. if you like toyota..buy toyota. all i can say is toyota has quite the quality record. dodges have had their transmission problems and more. my friend had a 95 ram auto. trans was rebuilt when he got it..he had it rebuilt again..sold it...and that guy had it rebuilt. from what i hear they fixed the prob but it never should have been there. as for you guys comparing dakotas to tundras. you cant compare half a truck to a full size truck. youre comparing a 8 cyl mid size trk to a full size trk. if you want to do that..compare a dak to a ram. bet the dak is faster. btw...my friends 95 ram auto had a 360. ohhh big bad 360 you dodge guys are saying...bull. i had a 96 4 banger toy 5 speed. if i came off the line without burnin my tires too much id kick his ass till about 90. then he could pull up beside me. anyhow...maybe what im saying is bull to...lol due to the fact ive been drinking and own a 2002 tundra. but when the day comes and you dogs pull up next to me at a light...you might not be smilin to long.

My QC Dakota sits as high as that Toy V8 wanna be, if not higher. And I have more room and a full-size rear door. Please stop up someone elses a$$ with that crap!
Oh and sure if I read all threads in here I could find some people complaining, but this is a dodge site not a Toy site. If I read Toy sites I'm sure I could find a lot of negative cra* about them too. So go back to your toy site! I think tyco has some stuff for ya.

The only race that a "toy"ota will ever win is a race to the JUNKYARD!

After 10 years they start to fall apart and you can't get parts for them.

I have owned TWO of those Crappy-otas !

Dodges are the biggest pieces of crap compared to Toyota.

You cant even compare them. Look at the JD Power surveys and ask the people who own them.

Toyota and Honda are always at the top in customer satisfaction surveys.

Just because a vehicle may or may not be quicker in acceleration does'nt mean its better.

Prospector, You are so wrong!!!!! First Toyota is one of the winningest factory teams in every class and catagory it races in!!! They are quickly catching up in F1 and CART and they have always been gig in off road raceing. The so called big three will not even race in their class in the Baja 1000 because they just can not beat them. So now Toyota is moveing up to a fulsize to force them to compete with them!!! The Toyota team always does well at Pikes Peak. They are considering NASCAR and Winston CUP raceing as well. My family has owned Toytas since 1971 and every vechile we have ever owned is still on the road. My other relatives love to by our used Toyotas because they know we maintain them well. I have never had a hardtime getting parts for them. I was a Toyota and BMW tech. and i have seen countless Toyotas with 300,000 miles on them going strong. I happen to be driveing a 16 year old 4Runner as my daily driver. My dad drives an 19982 Toyota Starlet as his daily driver. It is hard to find a Toyota in a junk yard unless it was in an accident and totaled out. I also have a Dodge Daktoa Quad Cab. I like my Dodge alot. MY 2001 Dak QC has been in the shop for warranty repairs 6 times in one year; since 1971 all the Toyotas that my family has owned we as a family have had to take a Toyota to the dealership 2 times. MY 86 4Runner was haveing problems so I took it in for a second opion I suspected the PCM and My Dads 1995 Tacoma needed a new input trans seal. That is not bad for nine vechiles since 1971. The Dodge had better priceing and fianaceing and that is why I own it price was the key. Dodge is not even close for build quality and durability. If you doubt me look at J.D. Powers IQ2 results. My Dak is fun to drive and I could afford it but I do not kid myself about build quality! My mom has a Tundra Access cab and I drive about ever other week so I know it well.We have spent so much time at my local 5 star dealership that they know my wife and kids on site by name. If I spend anymore time their I will have to start playing poker with the tech.'s and service writer. P.S. It is funny that Toyota can build a quality AMERICAN MADE truck in Indiana with UAW labor and American sourced componets and make a profit but Dodge, Ford and GM can not????????

Toyota is also going to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series starting in 2004 I think.

I'm very excited to see how the Tundra will do against the big 3 especially since that series keeps the same aero as the factory models.

Rumor also has it of Toyota preparing a Camry for competition in the Winston Cup series to compete with the big 3's token grocery getters.

Honda has decided to leave CART and pursue F-1. A worthwhile endeavor indeed from the best engine building company in the world. { Besides Ferrari that is. }

Im a loyal dodge guy but seriously, toyota came up with the indestructable 2JZ-Gte engine, Dodge hasnt even come close to matching that kind of screaming output capabilities. It takes dodge 8 litres to make 500hp and with a few mods the block will handle 1000hp or so, toyota supras (1993.5-1998) can run 1200 street legal hp, and make 600 + rwhp on pump gas, all that out of 6 cyl and 3 litres of displacement. Any company that can do that you have to tip your hat to. I know those arent truck engines but the technology to build a quality product is def in thier corner. But ill still keep my kota!

All I have to say is this... I work at the Tundra plant in Princeton, IN. And everyone, as well as I do, laugh at the Tundra as the use of a work truck. Ram would kick it's ass in that area. But they are made of very high quality. Every truck that comes off that line is checked, tested, and checked again before it is shipped. Not like GM or Ford with their "every 10" quality check. (I'm not sure with dodge...) But, in the end, my Dak is a hell of a lot better to drive, and more fun! I have a 2000 4.7 extcab, 5speed and it's a blast to drive! I also have a 93 3.9 auto with almost 160k on it, and no major problems whatsoever. (needed new alt, wiper motor, & cat) But just to let you guys know... Toyota even offers the Tundras to everyone here at the TMMI plant at a discounted rate, and i bet there may be 75 to 100 people out of 2500 that work here that own them. And another thing, it costs 450$ to have the tundras delivered to the local dealership in Evansville... When I was shopping around I noticed that. But when I went to the B/W dealership, (a guy can dream right?) It was only 680$ for some of their models to be shipped here. And thats overseas!! Whats up with that??

Also, another thing on the price issue on Toyotas.... Every truck that comes off the line is already sold. They dont produce a truck unless it is paid for. Toyota Sales out of CA buys all the vehicles made in North America, then sells them to the local dealerships. Even when you are special ordering a truck from the website, TSA is actually selling you the truck, and the dealer gets cut out. This all drives the price of the truck up for needless reasons I think. But I guess everyone needs to make that profit, even though it's the same company!!

Dude, forgive me if I sound a little confused or somehow mis-read youre post, But dont the dealers buy the trucks from the manufacturer anyways? I thought that was the point.

The dealer buys the truck wholesale and sells it retail. No different from any other buisness.

And I always thought that any time you special order a vehicle you go through the manufacturer anyway.I'm sure the dealer is involved to a point. Afterall youre special order truck has to be delivered somewhere, even though I have heard about folks having new vehicles delivered directly to thier front door.

okay guys, i think we've been beating this my truck is better than your truck thing to death. my 3.9 is better than your 4.7, my 4.7 is better than your 5.9, my 5.9 smoked a lightning and a toy......yeah my d50 just beat a civic. can we all just enjoy the fact that we are all truck drivers that enjoy what our truck can do? if i couldn't afford my dak, i'd buy a taco. if i couldn't afford my honda, i'd buy a saturn. i love dodge for their power, but i still respect other car makers for their pluses. a taco is a very well rounded truck, they're just a little low on power. if you see on struggling up a hill, give him a little nudge with your grill guard. if its a ford, help the guy push it off a cliff. and c whit....i got 175,000 miles out of my 82 d50 reg 4wd before i sold it for my dak, and the new owner just broke 200,000. original engine, and i put a sportier tranny in it. either way, lets all use our trucks for what they were made for.......running over rice burners.

Youre old D-50 was a riceburner.

It was a Mitsubishi sold by dodge.

I had a 84 D-50 with the G63-B motor and the Jenko tranny and it lasted about 200,000 miles.

Not much more than a compact car with a bed though.

Do not be suprised if you see a 3/4 or 1 ton Tundra this time next year with a gas 5.4 liter V8. They will probably have a true HD 1 Ton with a diesel by 2004-2005 model year. As far as towing or pay load I think that the current Tundra 1/2 ton is just as good as a work truck as any other 1/2 ton and will do just as well as any other brands 1/2 ton.

The little Mitsu's were good little trucklets.
they had a tendency to run rich and burn a little oil. They also had some timing probs cause you had to change the balance shaft belt when changing the T. belt

I had an 88 as well. Great trucks and excellent handling. nothing more than a compact car with a bed!

They had carbs untill 90 then FI. I always thought they were among the sportiest of the compact trucks.

Yea... its wierd with toyota how the sales go. the dealers call toyota sales out on CA and make the orders, at toyota sales price... then toyota sales calls the manufacturing facility and makes the order on the truck at manu. price. so toyota makes even more of a profit margin.

And with the 5.4l in the tundras... they will be added in i think 2004.... if i recall thats the model change year? maybe im wrong on that!?

I can run my Toy Tundra up to 106 mph, then the limiter kicks in. Talked to Toyota, they said I may be able to buy an aftermarket chip to run faster, but it would void the warranty. There's lots of pedal left at 106. They also said Toyota Racing Development (TRD) just came out with a supercharger for the 4.7 liter which will boost the hp from 245 to 375. Which won't void the warranty? The Tundra has been truck of the year for numerous magazines and was rated #1 in the insurance companies crash test. According to Consumer Reports, Toyota's maintenance records are far superior to most (all) Dodges. You hear Toyotas running 300,000 miles + all the time. How many Dodges run that long? Toyota has a better resale value than Dodge. This is the first Toyota I have owned, and I LOVE it!!! I plan to keep it for a very long time.

I have drove friends Dodge's which would seem to work well hauling fertilizer around the farm at 15 to 20 mph. Anything more than that, may be pushing it. Rick
