Subject: BEARND iat adjuster??? tech ?'s IP: Logged
Message: I've read all the info on speedtweeks.com and sill have a few questions.
when we use to do this trick to contours we would use a 5k ohm potentiometer on the iat sensor sensor all the way to the left factory sigenal all the way to the right modified signal.
from what I've read it's just a 50k ohm potentiometer in a projectbox correct? hows the switch work and frankly whats the point?
Don't get me wrong $30 dollars is an extremely fairprice for the hardware theres atleast $20 in parts with the iat adjuster and labor.
just want to know more about it because when we did this with contours depending on your location there was a loss of power.
plus I'd rather wire an optimal sized resistor for most conditions inline with the sensor. just a personnel prefferance thing.

Message: does it set the temp that want the iat to read or does it make the temp say 20 degrees cooler than what the iat is reading.

Message: get a 36K ohm resistor from radioshack (96 cents) and place into yout IAT sensor plug. use your head here kid. this'll put your computer @ 32 degree's.

Message: There's a little bit more than just a "POT" in the IAT Adjuster...and the wiring harness is automotive grade as well (so it'll handle the heat, oil, and dirt that's found under any hood).
A 5Kohm POT isn't enough on the range and a 32Kohm doesn't work on all vehicles. That's why we use the larger range on the dial. The switch is easy as well: Under 60 degrees F, some 2001+ models will trip the MIL as it now checks the IAT signal to see if it's out of range. (P0111)
The switch is also there to allow the individual to turn the box off for emissions testing (putting the factory sensor back into the loop) as well as allowing them to "adjust" on the fly.
Simple tricks work well for individuals, but don't expect them to work all the time and don't expect them to be a fix for different models. Ever tried a 32Kohm Resistor at different outside temperatures, on different vehicles, at different altitudes?

Message: I think I got it now.
so does it modify the signal or give a whole new signal? thats what I'm unclear on. however after looking at the sensor and what have you I think I'll just by the box from speedtweeks.

At one time, the price for the IAT adjuster for the 2.5L was "TBD", and now - it's not even offered. What's up with that? Will the 3.9L IAT adjuster work on the 2.5L?

Message: I just built my own iat adjuster box using everything listed on the speedtweaks site and it was pretty simple but i'm not sure if i have it wired correctly. there are 6 prongs on the switch and 3 on the 50Kohm pot. which wires go where??
i've got all of the wires connected already but want to be 100% sure they're in the right place before i solder them and try it out... so any help would be appreciated.

Message: Matt, let me see if I can explain the wiring connections for the IAT adjuster to you. The 6 terminal switch is a DPDT (Double Pole, Double Throw) switch. The 2 terminals in the center are the common leads...COM 1 and COM 2 on the schematic. With the switch in 1 position, the common terminal is connected to the terminal next to it, in the other position, it's connected to the other terminal. In switch section #1, for example, the IAT harness feeds one terminal, while the pot's wiper (middle terminal of the pot) feeds the other switch terminal. The common switch terminal for switch #1 feeds out to the PCM. For switch section #2, the IAT harness wire attaches to the terminal directly adjacent to the switch #1 terminal that has the harness wire on it. The other termianl of switch #2 has 1 side of the 1K resistor connected to it. The common of switch #1 feeds out to the PCM again. The other side of the 1K resistor connects to 1 of the outside terminals of the pot...the other outside terminal has no connection. Depending on how you wire the pot, the knob will work either in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Hope this helped...P

Message: i just built and installed my own iat adjuster using the parts list and instructions provided on the speedtweaks site. I can't say that i really notice any difference yet, probably because its winter here in winnipeg , canada and the incoming air is pretty cold already. I think i will have to wait until next summer to see results( unless i make an unscheduled trip down to cali).what i was wondering is: how does the pcm read the different resistances... what resistance=what temperature reading to the pcm?
does it take a while before the pcm learns the new temp. readings? any tips on fine tuning the unit?
