Message: Hello all, anyone know what the redline is on the 4.7 with the auto trans? this is the first vehicle I've driven that doesn't show a red area on the tach.

Message: No red line. It is rev limited.

Message: Thanks, I was just wondering cause I got on it pretty good today and it was over 5000 rpm, usually with a V8 that would be high. Anyway thanks for the quick responses.

Message: My 2000 4.7 auto has a yellow line at 5500 and a red line at 6000. The transmission shifts by itself at about 5400 rpm, it still seems to be pulling quite hard at 5400.

Message: With these newer engines being over head cam (SOHC) they rev higher before the valves begin to float. my buddies 98 cobra 4.6L (DOHC) has seen almost 7,000 rpms and still pulled like hell.

Message: The 4.7 has a reline/limiter at 6000, but is best when shifted at 5000. Properly equipped a pushrod engine can be high reving. The BOSS 302s and the 302 Chevys (original Z-28 motor) turned some seriously high revs (7-8k), a good friend of mine had a 377 in an elky that he shifted at 7500, the current owner of the engine shifts at 8100-8200 (even with a Dominator the engine runs lean at that speed).

Message: I was just wondering if anyone knows why the new 4.7s red line at 7k and my 2000 redlines at 5500?? Is this an easy switch or is it more complicated??

Message: I'm not quite sure what is the rev limiter. I've had mine above 6000 (as a test) and it did not cut off. In 2nd gear, it holds the revs all the way to 6000 before shifting, and that is in drive! I wish it would shift earlier, like around 5700, but the only way to get it that way is to let of the gas a bit.
Anyways, I guess it depends on the truck.
