Quoted Stats Per KRC
2BBL M1 ??" Intake 2000-6000 Range
4BBL M1 ??" Intake ????-???? Range
Due to my rev Limiter on my 2001 I'm looking for a peak near 5k which Huges 12" Intake claims. Now the M1 power band from 2000-6000 seems a bit broad to be true.
I recently talk to a R/T owner in person that stated he did lose some bottom end but the power comes on like a Turbo later on in the upper RPM range. He intalled a 4bb M1. No 5k Rev Limter, Mopar chiped.
Posted Dyno results (can't remeber where) on the M1 Shows an increase from the low power band then puts out less power in mid range 3000-4500 than the beer keg stock. M1 doesn't come on until 5000+ RPM.

Message: I have the 2bbl M1 and the power comes on at 2000rpms and stays until you either shift or hit the rev limiter(mine is at 6K with Mopar PCM) There is a difference between the 4bbl M1 and 2bbl M1. WIth the 4bbl, you definitly lost low end, but not with the 2bbl. For the price I don't think you can beat the 2bbl M1 and you don't have to worry about blowing belly pan gaskets anymore either.

Message: I have the 4bbl M1 with a 4bbl tb. It is doggy off idle but with my 3000 stall I comes up quick it pulls to 6000 rpm. The 4bbl is a little work to install and if your looking for easy and good performance from idle with stock conveter and cam then go with the 2bbl M1

Message: I have the Huges stage I and I love it. I bought it before Mopar came out with the 2 bbl M1 or I would have bought it instead. Still Hughes stage I workd great and if you aren't going to do head work or wind the engine higher, I would suggest the Stage I.

Message: Stick with the M1 2BBL. The modified factory manifolds still will have the belly pan gasket problem and they can't keep up with the M1's.
Kota: Make sure you get the install kit and gaskets as well.

Message: I Have the stage 2 Hughes intake and I must say that I love it. I have a 5.2 with mopar headers and stock heads. The truck pulls hard up to 5800 rpms with no noticable loss of bottom end. I am sure the mpi is a very good manifold however I was reluctant to buy one since I didn't plan on spending alot of time at the track. Can anyone verify which of the two is more streetable?

Kota: The M1 MPI-2BBL manifolds are on a nationwide back order until around mid-January. There isn't a whole lot to relocate at all and is not a tedious job.

Message: Kota: Haven't polished a M1 (don't know how...ain't my thing.) ;) The easy way to tell is to remove the airhat, crack the TB blades wide open (engine off of course) and look down the bores with a flashlight (don't drop it in there). If you see any form of oil puddles, or a really think layer of oil, it's blown. (A light "mist" of oil on the pan is normal.)
Aaro: No...it's "Race or Offroad Use" only. (Not like that's ever stopped anyone. ;)

Message: Kota: I've heard of folks passing the sniffer in CA with the M1 2BBL...visually, it won't pass unless the tech doesn't know what he/she is looking at.
Yes, a blown belly pan will decrease performance (and increase pinging and oil consumption).

Message: I know this is an old post, but whatever. I decided to modify my own beer barrel, with a full port and polish job, and polished the outside because I was really, REALLY bored, and had a LOT of free time... it took almost two weeks total time, or about 80 hours. I cut down the runners to 12 inches using a die grinder ( pneumatic) with aluminum oxide discs, took only a hour, they are AMAZINGLY simple to cut down, and very simple to adjust in length, anyone with a dremel could do it, but I HIGHLY REcommend the use of air powered tools, as the discs are MUCH larger and stronger.... then, port matched the runner openings which took two hours, with a carbide deburring bit on the die grinder. then, used the polishing discs for the remainder of the exterior and interior cavity, including a chop to the top of the throttle body, leveling off all those stupid knobby things on top, except the air hat threaded hole, and polished the living snot out of the hole TB until it was almost a mirrored surface. I also replaced the old belly pan steel plate with a piece of sheet aluminum in 1/4" by 7" by 17" cut and ground to fit, in 6061 Aluminum, to cure the belly pan leak.
My total expense was
25 for TB off ebay, 25 for intake off ebay, 40 in tools, discs polishing pads, etc. and 40 for the piece of aluminum. oh, and 35 for new intake gaskets.. My point is, if you have the time, and available equipment, you SHOULD be easily able to make the exact thing that hughes is selling for under $50. (NO offense meant,Hughes!) MY tally is almost 120, for everything, including buying a new intake and TB, so I could polish it down, without having my truck down too...the outside looks amazing with a full polish, but just to mod the intake It would've only taken me three or four hours to remove, chop the runners, and reinstall the "HP" beer barrel.
