Message: I was wanting to hear some opinions on which would be the better set up lake wood style trax bars or cal trax. I have the hotchkis 2/3 drop will the cal trax still work ? And are they worth the extra cash?

Message: Cal Trac's are suppose to be the best. I didn't feel like pressing out bushings and spending 6 times as much money as I did on my Lakewoods.
I am sure one day I will buy the Cal trac's but for $40.00 I am happy for now. Going to port the TB next.

Message: I have to agree, I had the Lakewoods for a year, then I got the Caltracs. To be honest I did'nt see any difference in Performance. They both work excellent. One cost about 300, the other about 30, the Caltracs are a MAJOR Job to install and the Lakewoods are very simple. The Caltracs give a very stiff ride, and the Lakewoods don't.
The Caltracs look alot better, imho. However, you'd be better off spending the money on the 70-72mm TB or slicks and using the Lakewoods.

Message: If you have the full Hotchkis suspension, you won't notice much difference with either one. The stiffer leaf springs don't flex as much as the stockers, and traction bars don't help as much as they woudl on a stock suspension. I had my Caltracs before I got Hotchkis. When I had stock suspension they definitly helped. Now with the Hotchkis, I get the same 60' time with or without them adjusted.

Message: Great point about the Hotchkis springs helping out. I noticed a simple rear shock upgrade makes a difference in wheel hop! I used the Doetch Tech Nitro shocks and they seem to reduce the axle hop prior to the caltracs. The shocks won't do anything for the axle wrap, but they seem to keep the hopping action to a minimum.

Message: Cal Trax are better but you only get the benefit if you are running a pretty hot motor and slicks. Most street cars and trucks will never see the benefit. Spring clamps work wonders on almost stock trucks.

Message: if you guys want better traction, try the basics first. if and when you lower your truck (hopefully not with blocks) remember adjust the pinion the angle! mat is right on the shock subject I am running pro-shocks on my dak and thay are 3 way adj. and they do make a little bit of an traction improvement. I personaly run 4deg nose down angle on my dak, and get really good traction at the track, on accel and braking.

Message: Blocks are'nt all bad, I've had my 2" blocks for about 30K + miles now and have never had any problems. They are angled blocks, from Western Chassis. They'll be removed in the next few weeks and replaced by the hotchkis 3" leaf springs.
The blocks have served me well.
