I went back through 3 months of gas receipts last night. (Sept thru Nov.) My average mpg was 15.3 mpg, with the highest being 16, and the lowest being 14.7 mpg. This covered approx 3800 miles, mostly around town, mixed driving, with alot of wide open throttle! No extended interstate driving in this time frame.
My highway mileage is usually in the 17.5 to 18.5 mpg range, thats running 75 mph @ 2750 rpm +/-

After all the modifications, PCM, 72mm TB, Exhaust, Air Intake, IAT adjuster, Plugs, and 180 T-stat my "around town" mileage has'nt changed. My highway mileage has dropped approx. 1-2 mpg.

This was using strictly 93 octane (mostly Citgo).

I'm pretty satisfied with 15 mpg, considering the weight of the truck, gearing, areodynamics, and my driving style. I can't complain.

@ the Rear wheels, prior to the 72mm TB, 220hp/295tq +/-, my estimate after the TB (no new dyno runs as of yet) probably 225hp/305tq +/-, just a guess.

thats pretty good, my guess is the PCM produced the drop in milage...you'd have really good gas milage (for a v-8 truck) without it.

I know I have asked this question in another thread but how do you like the 72mm TB?

CW, I LOVE IT ! The look, the sound, the Torque increase, its just an awesome bolt on. If they had been available a year or two ago, I'd probably had gotten one before some of my other modifications. By far, the most increase in Tq, and power has come from the Flowmetrics TB, even more than the Mike Leach PCM.

It did seem to cause a slight loss on the low end, according to the trusty "butt dyno", but with the 5spd trans you can overcome that with a higher rpm launch. I'm trying to shedule some dyno time. the local speedshop was down during SEMA, and now my workload has prevented me from getting in there, but I'm trying to work something out soon.

The best part about Flowmetrics is that Bruce does'nt just sell a product that looks pretty (which is does look awesome), but they design these TB's to be reliable, and to make power.
He did'nt rush the design, and R&D process just to get the TB out to everyone. This is a top quality peice, unmatched by anything out there.

I've had my 02' QC 4.7 4x4 for about three/four weeks now, and have put about four tanks of gas in it. I haven't gotten anything over 12.6 on mine so far. I've got 1400kms on it, I think that's about 1000 miles. Had it in 4x4 for a tank and it dropped to 11.0 mpg

Where the heck do you guys drive these trucks. I have a 4x2 4.7 3.92 CC and I haven't gotten anything under 14. My best was almost 20. I usually average around 17. South Florida is pretty flat though.

CThomp.. you have a 4x2 CC.. your compairing it to 4x4 QC's the weight difference alone can cause the lower milage not to mention the gearing in the front even when it's not engaged.

I realize the weight difference but I often here many people with my setup getting far worse than I do. Just wondering what kind of terrain people are driving on (hills, mud, etc.)

I'm in Calgary (Canada). It's been pretty cold out recently -20. So, maybe it's the weather? It's new? I just put the K&N filter in, do I need to reset my PCM? It had about 500kms on it when I installed it.

RJay,

I'm up in Calgary, so I would be about the same altitude as you. But the thing is, I can't get over 13mpg. I think I'll wait a few more tanks before I take it in.

Hey guys (first post), I'm surprised at the 4.7L mileage. I own a '96 5.2L 5-speed and easily average 18-19 mpg. All in-town and in mountainous East TN. I've been looking hard at the gen3's, luckily for my wallet, dealers never have 4.7L 5spds on the lot. I've been reading the forums for about 2 weeks and get the impression that the 4.7L's are much more efficient engines than the 5.2L, so I'm kinda surprised at the low mileages.

I can't complain about the mileage my truck gets. Depending on my driving...city or highway I get any where from 17 to 21 mpg. That includes pulling a car trailer some times.

I have a 2001 Dakota sport ext cab. It is a 4.7 liter, 5-speed, sure grip axle with 3.92 gears. I got it last april and been enjoying it ever since. I had to order it special though it seems this combo is hard to find on dealers lots.

I had a 2000 Dakota sport ext cab before this one. It had a V6 and I never got mileage as good as I do now with this one. Just my two cents.
