Message: I don't know enough about mechanics to give you a break down. But I have 3.92's. 1st gear is a granny gear and super low. I only use it when a boat. Most people get 3.55's or 3.92's. 3.55's are less jerky.

Message: The axle ratio is like a mechanical leverage factor. The higher the number(lower ratio) the better acceleration and pulling power. It is also better for bigger tires. A lower number(higher ratio) is better for mileage and highway cruising. These are usually better for smaller tires. A low ratio taxes the engine at high speed which is why sometimes you see a car or truck sounding like it is running hard but going slower than other traffic.Drag cars use a ratio such as 4.11, 4.56, or 4.88 because they need to get the best acceleration possible.

Message: The expressed rear end ratios represent the number of times the drive shaft must turn in order for the rear wheel to turn one revolution.
