Subject: What would happen? IP: Logged
Message: I want to take off the muffler on my 4.7 and run a straight pipe in place of it. Has anyone done this, and what are the pit-falls?

Message: I think that you would lose power because you will have no back pressure and the engine does not produce anywhere near the power to even consider doing this. It may seem like it works but it will be loud as hell and you will get tired of it quick if you don't get a ticket for it first. I have seen this done on other cars and trucks and have not seen or felt any performance gain except for being louder but it may backfire on you. I just telling what I have seen and felt. Good luck to you and if you try it and don't like then you can always fix it.

Message: Took everything rear of the cat off today on my 93 318 Dakota. It sounds like a muscle car, but it is sucking gas like you wouldnt believe. As soon as I get it between 2200 and 3000 rpm's, it sounds great, but below that and all I get is a dull, loud, drone. I am going to pop for a muffler soon because I cant handle this mileadge thing. Sounds great though. Oh yeah, as far as power goes, I think I may have lost some, but it sounds awsome!
