Subject: IP Stage II 9" or KN GEN II FIPK IP: Logged
Message: DAK brother from Canada, eh, with 2000 Dak QC 4X4 5.9L. Mods thus far:Gibson SS 3" side swept, Gibson SS headers. K&N drop in.
Can you please help me to decide...Intense Performance Stage-II 9" Power Stack or the K&N Gen-II Intake Systems (FIPK).
Should I just stick with the drop in?
Which is better? any testimonials? Please let me know...

I have a 2001 5.9 QC 2WD with Gibson single cat back and Gibson SS headers. (I also have some other stuff)
I went with the K&N. It was pricey (about $250). My truck has the cruise control cable running through the front passenger side of the engine compartment. K&N has a special model for this application which provides brackets and parts to relocate the cruise control cable.
I think some late model 2000s also had the cruise in this location. If so you need a special Intake.
My K&N model # is 57-1517.
The kit was complete and fit well. I did have a minor problem with the shape of the fitting that connects the value breather hose. It was no big deal though.
I also had a drop in K&N before.
I installed a new cap, rotor, wires and the FIPK all at the same time. I noticed an improvement in performance. The FIPK produces a loud deep sucking sound (like a giant four barrel carb) when you put your foot to it.
I saw several other Intakes. I like the K&N because of reputation, application and because it came with a heat sheild that some of the others did not have.
Hope this helps
Bill

Message: I have the stage III kit from Intense Performance that has the steel canister around the filter and I am very happy with it.I have a '97 without the cruise control cable interferance (mine's on the firewall) I did some measureing with a temp probe and the IP stage III keeps the incoming air within 2-3 degrees(F) of the outside air. This stage III setup also has the flex hose that feeds from the canister to the front of the engine compartment next to the radiator. This is a great system and IMHO, is far superior to the K&N.
