Message: Has anybody installed an aftermarket tranny cooler on their Daks? If so, is it worth it? and is it worth the $80 for one?
I have heard they are mainly made for vehicles that race, and wouldnt help much for typical street vehicles....

Message: If you have a 5sp it would only be done for road course and circle track racers. If you are talking about a auto it's a great idea ---just do it.If you trans fluid temp hits 270F it's toast and will kill the trans in short order.A colder trans will last longer and shift better.IF you live where it gets cold (below zero) you may want to run a in-line oil themostat to let the temp run a bit warmer in the winter. You may want to put in a combo trans engine oil cooler and kill two birds with one stone.

Message: Besides the one built into the radiator(common on all autos) I have one inbetween the rad and a/c unit. I think it was apart of the tow pkg, but since I bought it used, I don't know. I want to add an eng oil cooler in there also, and hopefully will when I do the oil filter relocation thing.

Message: Well my truck is an '89, and I do have auto transmission. Also, I also do have a tranny cooler under the radiator. Its small and OEM quality, and I havent had any probs with the truck at all in that area. I was just wondering if it would be one of those good preventive measures to take, and so I posed the question....

Message: It never hurts to add stuff like that. 1 you have slightly more fluid in the system and 2. it helps prevent the tranny from overheating. While your at it, just a suggestion, check into a dual unit cooler for the eng oil and tranny. Just a suggestion.

Message: TigerDak,
bro, adding a transmission cooler is a great idea. i added mines like the 2 month i got my 2000 Dodge Dakota. a friend of mines who's a mechanic at the dealer told me to get it first among any other mods. i used an aftermarket brand. B and N Trans cooler. cost me around $60..... real easy set up. they got all the nesecarry parts and comes with easy to read instructions.
it'll save you from making costing transmission repairs down the line.
mahalo,
Scotty
