Subject: M1 OR HEADERS? IP: Logged
Message: HEY FELLOW DAK OWNERS
Any suggestions on my next purchase? ($300) M1 2bbl or ($545) 2001 R/T Positive Performance Headers Kit full length headers in triple nickle chrome, with the bungs welded in for the two pre- O2 sensors. The kit comes with the new Dual Kat Box. I was leaning towards getting the headers, that way I could remove my two pre-cats and the main cat.
pre-cat +5hp +10tq +400rpm peak power
main-cat +10hp? +15tq? +400rpm?
Headers +10hp +10tq? +200rpm?
total 25hp 35tq and 1000rpms?
Current Mods, 180T-stat,Autolites,K&N fipk2,50mm F&B TB, Magnaflow muffler.
Any Suggestions?

Message: Anthony, don't add all of the modifications HP ratings together...that's not how it works.
We only found a 1-tenth difference between two '01 R/T's in the 1/4 mile. Both were running a 100HP Nitrous shot (NX), both have headers, modified throttle body, custom exhaust, and a cold air kit. One of them had no pre-cats and the other still does...only a 1/10th difference!
The precats are not as restrictive as people are lead to believe.
You're looking at 15-20HP more...max.

Message: Here is what i would do get the M1 frist and while you are at it you can get a set of roller rockers and mild cam. Then after those mods then you would need the headers. Headers do not provide a very big improvent if any at all on a mostly stock motor untill you get the M1 and the other mods i listed then you will see the benfit from the headers. Now for the cats i would leave the two pre cats alone and just remove the 3rd one and thats it and make sure you have a good fee flowing muffler on there too like flowmaster.
