HAHA I'd say if U spent all that money on your chip drive as fast as U want...I mean isn't that the reason U got a chip to increase HP and to go faster than the factory limiter? I don't have a chip and I don't own a 4.7 but I go up to 120MPH in my R/T the other day.

actually the truck can go 140mph. its the tires cant go faster than the set limiter. change to a higher speed ratted tire and go as fast as you want.
saying speeding kills is stupid. what about the germans that drive 180mph on the autobahn? its stupid driving that kills

the guy that drove the McLaren F1 to 240mph is still alive. i seen the video on the web.

ty mike leach does custom flashes for $400. a jet chip will not remove the limiter and they are nowhere near as good as a flashed PCM

I drive big trucks for a living . they have grovners on them its cool , when your on 95 and in fast lane an a @ss hole in the slow lane speeds up , then you have to slow down , then he slows down then you speed up to get in front of him , the game goes on ( so if I can go faster then you i can pass your slow @ss) Ok . THanks

Hypertech has power programmer III put 31 more Ft.-lbs of tourque at 1,500 rpm, better acceleration, and firmer shifts right at your fingertips. it plugs right into your sub-dash diagnostic port and reprograms your truck's computer in less than ten minutes.it lets you set your speedometer for custom tire sizes, tune for low temperature thermostat, designate rear axle ratios and more and they also have one that pops between your truck's factory computer and wiring harness . not for 4.7 yet its on its way performance is not about factory setting .dodge is looking out for warrty ( life of vehicle ) performance could care less . have auto don't think it would over rev before around 120 its bad to have escorts , amc pacers, ie 4's pass you at 100 just want dam Limiter off if need more speed would be nice to have it around if needed. Thanks

Speed is an addiction like any other thing. And like any other addiction, it can have a down side. I have a 1990 Dak with a 3.9L. Not for speed but for fun. A little dirt and mudd. For speed I have my 1985 Mustang GT 5.0L. I can easily hit 90mph in 4th gear and have been up to 130 mph in 5th. Got scared when I was the dotted line go solid and my gas gauge steadily moving downward. But on a nice straight, lonely road. Like said before, Speed doesnt kill, stupid driving does!
Have a nice, and safe, Turkey Day.

For all the people in the dakotas that cut out at 99 mph simply turn your key switch like your starting it, and hold it foward before it cuts out you will exceed speeds of 130 to 140 and then you will run out of gear

Hunter,,,,,,that sounds interesting,,,,,but I don't think I want to be staring down at the ingnition, or worrying about how far to turn the key when I'm in the process of getting a manslaughter charge.
But does it work?, and why? If I could find a very deserted road, I would try it. I owned a tweaked Merkur Scorpio, and have taken it up to 160 before,,,that some scary $h1t!

No actually about the key thing. Ok say it dies. If you have a manual just push the clutch in put it in neutral. Make sure the engine has completely stopped turning. Start it back up. Put the tranny into 5th gear and let the clutch out.

Any time you try starting the engine while it is turning is stuipd.....just remember that grinding sound. It's saying "What the %#^$% are you doing?!" IF you shift an auto into neutral and re start the engine, than go back into gear is bad for the tranny (also happens when people try coasting down hill). Even manuals have a slight bad effect. That whole engine at 600rpm, should be at 3500 @ 100mph thing. Maybe it just me, actually I think it's the clutch. Finally, what a lot of people are trying to say...... If the computer senses x- mph for the shut down (mine is at 115), it won't allow a re start until conditions are safe. Remember the key doesn't override the speed sensor, not as far as I know any way.

Be smart when you drive fast. Just because you got in front of me by doing an "indy-like" 3 lane change go around 5 cars and another "indy-like" lane change doesn't mean you can drive better. It means you're STUPID!!!! You are the f'n reason my insurance is high. And you're the f'n reason we can get our highways set up like the autobahn. I feel safer in Germany behind the wheel of a Focus wagon going 180-220kph than I do riding beside your stupid *&^ at 80mph.

The only way a stock dodge dakota will do 140mph is if you dropped it off a very large cliff. Don't be a moron. The stock dakota has a real top speed of about 125mph. I had mine up to 117 and it was climbing very slowly before I had to get out of it. I'm being a little optimistic about the extra 8mph. Trucks are a areodynamic nightmare. Just because the truck gets to 100mph easily does not mean it make it to 140mph. Read up on weight, drag coef., and HP requirements on reaching 140mph for a truck, and then the top speed of a 385HP Lighting. Then you will understand. Just print the facts.

I agree with Heath. I was riding pass in a friend's 96 Rustang GT. It stock except for mybe the intake, It's been 4 years so I can't remember that well. On a strip from Altus, OK to Lawton we'd hit 140 and the car hit a wall. He had it to the floor and it would go 142-141 and that was it.

If you think about it, a truck with 235 hp and 3.55 rear can, and only in theory, go up to 200mph before running out of gear and blowing the engine at 5200rpm. But drag over comes any vehicle especially at speeds above 100. The linear curve of drag dramatically goes up after 100mph but the graph of the gears and power in those gears stays the same. Just a little Physics for ya.

YOU CAN DISCONNECT THE SPEEDOMETER AT THE REAR DIFF.. IT JUST PLUGS INTO THE TOP.
UNPLUG IT AND GET YOURSELF A G.P.S. TO SEE WHAT SPEED YOU ARE GOING OR GO BY THE TACH..
IF YOUR GOING 60MPH @2000RPM, YOU WILL BE GOING 120MPH @4000RPM. (IN THE SAME GEAR) ONCE THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKS UP. MY TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKS UP AT ABOUT 45MPH IN OVERDRIVE ON MY TRUCK.
IF YOU DISCONNECT THE SPEEDOMETER THE ABS LIGHT WILL COME ON AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER DRIVING MORE THAN 20 MILES WITH IT DISCONNECTED. WHEN I GOT HOME I JUST PUT THE PLUG BACK IN AND RESET THE COMPUTER AND THE WARNING LIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON. NO PROBLEMS.
THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON BECAUSE THE COMPUTER "KNOWS" THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK AFTER DOING THIS BUT I AM NOT SAYING THAT WHAT I DID WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HOW FAST IT WOULD GO. SO IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO SCREW UP THIER TRUCKS.

OK skeptics of the Jet Chip...I have a stage II in my 2000 auto. club cab...at Atlanta Chassis Dyno it turned 206 rwhp...with Z-Tube intake, Gibson 3" exhaust, helix spacer, and Mobil 1 oil.
The Jet is now OUT and I will soon go back on the
dyno at another $50 charge. Will post the results
ASAP...personally, I can't see any difference. Oh,
for the record....with the Jet my Dak still cut off at 98-100 mph on the dyno.
