Subject: leaky exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I've reduced the leak at the flange of the driver's side header to the point where it's very little. I've had enough trying to fix it and lost too much sleep over it. Was wondering if having a slight leake would hurt anything. thanks

Message: Doubt it. If the leak was still pretty big then it may throw out the O2 sensor reading.

Message: Thanks CW for the speedy response. I just wanna forget about the headers for right now. $500 for months of agony and little gain. Also, on a side note, i wanna get rid of the pre-cats as i think this will give my car a boost (dakotas without them have 5 more hp with a smaller 65mm TB instead of a 68). I'm guessing a 10 h.p increase. Also, I'm doing this, because as a result, I feel the reduced backpressure will also help reduce the leak somewhat even more.

Message: According to my Gibson Header Instructions, they highly advise to retorque after a hundred miles to avoid leaks which if bad enough can burn your exhaust valve(s)

Message: thanks for the advice but its not my headers that are leaking its the collector where the header and pipe meet together it leaks pretty good, what can I do about that and what could it do to my truck if I don't get it fixed. Tried almost every kind of gasket nothing works.
