I am looking for some detailed information regarding the AWD system in the new dakotas. Is this the same system in the Jeeps?

Are they reliable?

Any thoughts on this type of system?

Thanks!

I have one and I love it. I live in Michigan, so we get some slippery conditions and I didn't put my truck into true 4x4 this past winter. I was kinda worried about getting an awd, but I'm glad I did.

No, it's NOT the same as in the Jeep. It's actually not AWD its a Full Time 4x4.

I have the F/T-P/T NV244HD Transfer Case (aka: AWD)

True, the switch on the dash says AWD, but the specs on the TC label this as Full Time - Part Time 4WD.

Go to the off road board and do a search on AWD and you'll see plenty of posts about our TC.

Other than not being able to get a stick with this TC, I have had no regrets getting this option.

AWD you can drive on dry cement. Full time 4WD you cannot. An AWD system has a differential or viscous coupler in the driveline between the front and rear to prevent it from binding on cement or high traction surfaces. A true 4WD system will bind up on cement kill your u-joints and transfer case. That's why my mine has a warning not to engage it on dry cement. A true full time 4WD system is for off-road use only.
