Subject: Give me HORSEPOWER! IP: Logged
Message: I have a '98 Dodge Dakota 4x4 and I am interested in more horsepower. I have the 318 cu.in. V-8 which produces plenty of power but I just can't be satisfied. I have a cat-back Flowmaster system on it and have a K&N Cold Air Induction system on order which will be installed tommarrow. The system is supposed to produce 25 to 30 horses against the K&N Filtercharger which produces 10 to 15. I would like to hear views on my decisions and future recomendations. Thanks!

Message: Cams, Heads, Intake are the only real kick in the butt items. Or a Super Charger or Wipple and Turbos.
F&B TB Can give you a great kick in the butt on the low end. Nothing special top end, without extra performance items.
Headers,Cold Intake,muffler,wires,T-stat, can help but nothing special, All added up can show some Improvement.
On a three cat system, removing or free flow cats can give you a kick in the butt feel.
NOS can also make some HP.
Thats my 2 cents

Message: He said he has a '98 so the three at system doesn't apply to him. I got a nice gain from my headers when I had them installed. Dind't require any additional mods to feel the difference, and they compliment any other mod I do decide to do. Ported throtle bodies help a lot more than just low end. Have you put your truck on the dyno after installing the ported TB?? I have!! I know th epowerbadn moves up with the headers and TB so it does help top end as well. The stock beer barrel intake really limits the top end numbers though, and after 5000rpm is worthles. Put on the 2bbl M1 intake manifold, and you can easily pull up to 5500RPM and still have power. I still waiting on a dyno run after my 2bbl M1 install. You wil notice a small gain with the K&N that will only get better with a ported TB and headers!! Cold air intake and ported TB were my first two mods, and I was extremely happy with them.

Message: if you want lowend torque go with a TB. if you want more in the topend (also gains in the bottom) go with the 1.7 roller rockers. there is a GB going on right now. thoes things kick ass!

Message: Kota: A bigger bore TB will give you higher RPM performance as well. That's why there are different sized TB's available. Smaller bore provide lower-end TQ but at a cost of higher RPM HP. If the TB is designed properly, it'll give you the best of both worlds.
The 1.7:1 rollers will gain you about 20RWHP but if you plan on changing out the cam to a larger, more agressive model, you'll need to remove the 1.7:1 rollers as the more agressive cams require 1.6:1 ratio.

Message: We tested a stock V8 TB vs. the Flometrics 50mm TB on my S/C'd V6 earlier in the year and found a peak of 20RWHP more and 15RWHP across the board.
On the 5.9L, the 52mm is actually the best performer out there right now.
On the Jules comment, while his customer service skills could use a little bit of "finesse", he's been around a lot longer in the Magnum scene and knows his stuff when it comes down to the engines.
