Message: Hey guys, I just got the new issue of Sport Truck and they have a write up about various RT Dakotas with differing modifications.
The only thing I could deduce from the article was that they did not know what combination (of minor modifications) made more power, short of nitrous and SC.
What do you guys think? There were some trucks that were running 15.8 in the 1/4 mile. I thought our trucks would do high 14's stock, no?
I have never track-tested my truck so I dont know...

Message: I own the blue R/T in the article that ran 15.8. The temps that day were close to 100 degrees, and the track is near 2800' altitude. The conditions weren't there for any 14 sec n/a timeslips. I've since ran a 14.73 with no other mods.

Message: Aghh I hate the format of this board. I don't like having to click twice to actually post my message. Yes, I had slicks on, but they weren't drag slicks. They were hard stock car slicks that suck on the drag strip. I was chirping second all day long with them on and was only running high 15's and a few low 16's. Need ot get some real slicks mounted. Also, the rims they are mounted on aren't the best either. Whe I went to take the slicks off, four of the six lugs on my passenger side were screwed and had to be replaced. Not a good day for me. The purple R/T on NOS got a washer dropped down inside his intake manifold during a throttle body swap so we had to tear into the top part of his motor to find it so he coudl drive back to Washington. He also blew a head gasket on his first run of the day and didn't realize it till that night. So he was runnign on a blown head gasket all day!!.

Message: Yeah, I read that about the head gasket. That bites big time. Was he dragging all day like that?
I tell you this; the white regular cab with black viper stripes was BAD looking! I might put white stripes on my Black Dak.
I am thinking about trying out my Bosch +4 plugs again. Which ones are you running?

Message: The Bosch platinums are junk!! They have a lifetime warranty, but other than that no performance gains can be had from them. I ran them for a while, then put in the cheap Autolite 3923 plugs and was pleasantly surprised with the difference. The stripes on the white RC were a deep blue, not black, and he is tryin to get them replaced now since they are stained and peeling. And Yes, Dan was draggin all day on a blown head gasket and didn't know about it.

Message: Damn, that stinks for Dan. Hopefully he will be back up and running soon.
I am currently running the 3923's and have been satisfied. I was gonna try the +4's again now that I have a new cap and rotor with my 6A and wires but I will just leave the Autolites in. I probably should check the gap on them this weekend.
HSKR, I have heard two things about plug gap:
1) more gap equals more power because of more exposure to the mixture.
2) less gap means more saturation of the spark(s) which means a hotter spark which equals more power.
What gap are you running? Which one should I do?

Message: If you have stock ignition(ie no MSD or other aftermakret ignitions) the stock gap is just fine. If you have an aftermakret ignition that privides a hotter spark, try goin larger. A smaller gap does produce more saturation, but nt a hotter spark. You would use a smaller gap ona NOS application to make sure it does spark. A larger gap provide a hotter spark.

| re:how to lose your speed limiter on R/T IP: Logged
Message: I found how to shut off everything in truck except the motor. Most 2001 R/T's shut off at 115mph but, I found a way that you can go way pass that. While going down the road turn key back real easy, actually you might want to try it while parked. The only thing that happens is your speedometer will go to zero also the radio and power windows will shut off. I've had my truck up to 130 mph and it did not shut off. Remember my tuck is bone stock (no modifications).Have fun but watch for blue lights Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!

Message: Well first off your not going to be going 130mph turning your key back b/c the truck shuts off at 115mph. The best way to do it is to start your truck leave it in park and try it b/c you want have anything to lose that way (If your radio and A/C goes off and your engine is still running you can go as fast as you want to).. Remember turn key back real easy!! Believe me I didn't do it at 130 mph and what motivated me was I love speed and I'll try anything once.Just try it.

Message: Well- Stupid me, I tried it out and the radio went out first but everything else was on. So I turned a little more then the truck turned off..... Curve ahead! - no power steering - this R/T really needs power steering - engine won't turn back on - must put it in N - engine on - steeeeeer.
Really - try this when the truck is stopped.

Message: j-man - how did you manage to get a Viper engine to run quicker in a pickup truck than it did in a Viper?.... without mods. I would think that the additional 1,000 lbs of weight and the aerodynamics of a brick would have some effect.
I'm having a tough time with this one.
