Message:
Ok, my 00' Black CC 2wd auto 4.7 now has 26,000 miles on it, and I wanted to see what it would do in the 1/4 mile. I might note that here in MD, all 4.7 Daks are rated at 230 HP due to Northeast Emissions Standards as opposed to 235HP sold elsewhere in the country. When the truck was new, it ran 15.90s at 84-85 mph.

Tonight, with the weather in the high 40s\low 50s, I ran a best of 15.74 sec @ 86.9 mph out of only 2 runs with my new drop in the box K&N filter. I just put the filter on before driving to the strip, though I did reset my computer. Traction is really a big problem though. My 60ft was 2.3972 (really a 2.4)on the 15.74 run. I might add that I was running normal tire pressure (35psi) and had 3/4 tank of full plus the spare full-size rim and tire.

My second run was literally half a second slower due to traction (60 ft time of 2.6272, 16.21 @ 85.07 mph). If I could hook up and use even close to full throttle down low, I'm sure the truck would run 15.30s - 15.40s easy. The most amazing thing about this truck is that in 1st gear, it ran side by side with a new Corvette until about 40mph and also a late model Z-28, though after that they leave you in the dust! The 4.7 has great low-end, but peters out on top, especially in 3rd gear, as evidenced by the trap speeds. Still, I'm impressed with the performance, especially considering it isn't an R/T. For comparison, a mid-90s Mustang GT ran a 15.59 right ahead of me while I was waiting in the staging area. So, yes, under some conditions, especially stoplight to stoplight, a 4.7 Dak or R/T can really screw with a muscle car due to it's low end. Just don't let any open space between you or you're history!

If anybody else has run their 4.7 Auto 2wd at the track please respond..........

My truck is very close to yours in style,01' auto 4.7 CC sport. I do have a few mods also, but a problem from the beginning has been traction, with an auto of course you don't have the control of a stick shift. I have found that a $40dollar pair of Lakewood Traction Bars(from PepBoys/AutoZone) has eliminated wheelspin when I floor it from a standstill, and when I take fast turns it definitely sticks to the ground better. I have not gotten to compare times before and after installing them, but I can feel it lauch harder(no wasted torque). Check out my other post and read the replys.

If you just reset the computor you might want to take to the track NEXT week. It seems that it takes upto a week before you perfomance peaks up. I'd do a mod, reset have a run of mediocre runs the boom a solid dose of testicular enhancement! Try it, I'd like to know if I'm the only one that this is happening to.

The 5sp and 3.92 rear helps. The k&N dropin, bolt on traction bars and removing the airhat wer simple. Grinding/cutting the stock airhat was messy but straight forward. But using the dremel for a port and polish job I can't recommend. I was lucky and it worked. But I really had no clue what I was doing, and if you gind off any of the edge around the butterfly-you muck it up but good! I was very lucky, careful and prepared to buy a new TB if I messed up. But the performance isn't realy that outta hand a lot of dudes with the RC 4.7/5sp/3.92 combo with an LSD are pulling those times stock.

Dr. Q, I don't understand how your trap speed is 97 mph! It is totally inconsistent with the level of mods and that of other fast RC 5-speeds who have taken their Daks to the track. If you are running 97 mph with traction bars, then why is your ET so poor? You should be running at least 14.4 or lower with that trap speed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start trouble. But stock RC 4.7 5-speeds generally run high 14s to mid 15s (depending on driver and conditions) in the high 80s to low 90 mph. It would take at least 50 to 70 horsepower to gain that kind of trap speed over stock, especially given that trucks are heavy. Did you run at your local dragstrip with an official timeslip to get this? And have you run fairly consistently at that trap speed? Thanks.........

No man your about the fifth guy to mention the high trap speed. The nearest strip is hours away. I got a g-tech for my b-day. I swear that little black box is more fun than I've had in a while. It measure instantaneous speed at the end of a run the traps at the stip measure your average over the last 100'. It gives 4-5 mph over trap speed. Today it saved me $48! I was getting an oil change, Quaker State Full Synth. The guys there were a bunch of young gearhead types, they saw the lakewoods sticking out told them about the dakota page here and how a simple little scientist was transformed into a gearhead. Anyway I showed them the g-tech (don't leave home without it) they HAD to use it. So I traded the oil for the use of the g-tech. How cool is that!
Cool Daddy (great handle) you've got an auto CC, that I'll give you about an extra 500-700lbs and higher gearing than an rc 4.7/5sp/3.92. Bone stock it ran 0-60@6.75 and the 1/4 in 15.12 @ 96.4. I got the full breakdown on https://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/per/2106.html

Yeah, mine came with 3.55 gears and limited slip. By the way, I'm interested in replacing my muffler with a Gibson or Borla, but worry about "cabin drone". I did try a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, but the cabin drone was terrible! Plus, I thought the engine sounded less like a V-8, even though it was much louder. Can anyone using these mufflers give advice? Also, I've read that the 4.7 doesn't respond well (power-wise) to exhaust upgrades. Has anyone tested either the Borla or Gibson at the track of with a G-Tech? Thanks.........

Cool Daddy I put a 2000 R/T muffler and tail pipe on my truck and love it.It looks good and is going to last longer than most.It is louder than a stock 4.7 muffler but no drone on the highway.I wanted something that was not going to rattle and bang on the frame, and take away all the back pursuer.Bolts on just like the 4.7 did. When you nail it at 50 with the K&N drop in filter,it just hauls *ss.Having the 235 hp engine and R/T cat back and weighting in at 4,090 lbs,I wonder what my truck would do in the 1/4 mi.

Where can I get a G-Teck and are they hard to install?

just alittle bit of info to help you guys out on the g-techs. when i got mine i kept taking it in and out of the windshield, this was causing very inconsistent readings because i could never get it lined up exactly the same way it was before. i mounted it in the ash tray. the cord winds up in it and you can still shut the tray. this way you never have to take it out and it is alot more consistent because it is always in the same spot.

4.7 dak. It has a very presise aceleromater that can measuer G forces and determine on it's own speed and distance just from prossecing that info.

I would only however use G tec as a gauge but not take any of it's readings as fact. It's very close but not as close as a track time.

They have a website that explains it all. Don't know the URL but use your search engine and check it out. I will probably buy one myself in the future.
