Subject: Which transmission on 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: I see shift improvement kits for auto transmissions and they name them as 44re or another number letter combination. How can you tell what type of transmission is in your truck.
I have a 2001 4.7l multi-speed auto, but what is the proper trans. number/name?

Message: Unless they changed the designation for 2001, the multi-speed auto that comes with the 4.7 is the 45RFE.

Message: By the way, I've never heard of a 44RE in reference to a Dakota. Dak automatics are the 42RE, 46RE, and the 45RFE. 45RFE is for the 4.7 only. I think the 42RE is for the 2.5 and 3.9, and the 46RE is for the 5.9 only. But don't quote me on that.
