Subject: now what?! IP: Logged
Message: ok well yesterday i started driving and my truck feels like it wants to die at idle and when driving it feels like it just looses all power. i have to rev it to about 3500rpm and down shift to 2nd and floor it. when its @ WOT its fine, but i cant exactly drive like that for long.
the power goes on/off/on/off and now it idles between 1500 and 2500 rpm. i changed the cap, rotor and plugs. i also added chevron fuel injector cleaner and nothing helped.
any thoughts?

Message: Is your idle air control solenoid working? When they go bad, all kinds of weird things happen to you idle. TRy pulling the harness off the sensor (its the one on the back of the TB, but you probably know that) while the truck is running and see if the idle changes or the truck dies. You could also have a pcm problem, and it could be telling the truck to idle too high. Have you tried resetting the pcm since this started?
Every time my truck screws up, I try resetting the pcm first. It usually helps.
Hope you find the problem!!

Message: well yesterday morning the CE light came on and it was running fine. i thought maby the injectors were dirty and the cleaner worked, so when i got home i reset the PCM and it started acting up again.

Message: well i changed the idle sensor and the problem is still there. its not only the idle though, the car surges when i drive. it stumbles and then it gets power. when i take off it feels like its going to fall on its face.

Message: Check around for a vacuum leak. If the wrong hose is broken or cracked, that could also cause a problem like that. If you can't find a vac leak, then I would guess one of the sensors is bad, or even possibly the computer itself. _Did you check which code you were getting before you reset the pcm??

Message: well the CE light came on again tonight, and i checked for a code. i turned the ignition to the on position for 5 rapid clicks while holding the odometer reset button. the only thing that happend what all of the guages went straight up, then all the way over to the right and back to normal. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALL ABOUT?! (i have a 98 if that makes a differance)

Message: I talked to my father last night (25 year professional mechanic) and he said the same thing, look for a vacuum leak. If the vacuum signal is wrong, all the sensors will read incorrectly and cause either a lean or rich condition, or it can cause fluctuation between both. Start checking the connections of your vac lines, especially where they connect at the sensors. You might have a leak at the MAP sensor or something.
Hope this helps!
