Bernd, what are you running in the 1/4? A friend of mine has 99' Tacoma, V6, blown at 12#, other mods to fuel delivery and such, stock intake, tundra rear end, and posi traction. He is running low 13's with 300hp at the fly wheel (dyno sheet to prove it). He's debating nitrous as his next lil' project. Id love to see you two take a run down the 1/4 mile once hes juiced. Of course Im a Dodge guy myself so Id be backing you all the way.

I have a friend here in tucson that has a blown tacoma 50 shot of nitros runs 12.97.4:10 in the rear.beats on it ,that thing is bullit prof.

mike2000- is he running a TRD SC? At what psi? What nitrous setup did he go with? Sorry for the twenty questions. Has he run with more than a 50hp shot?
I hope you can answer any of those. He just bought the truck earlier this year from a guy who works for TRD so hes getting hooked-up on mods.

mike2000- did you get out to the Pheonix show a couple of weeks ago? My friend was out there with his tacoma. Its white, bagged (really really fast), and tons of others crap. He ended up placing second in his class. Open-bed mild I believe.

I should have bought a Toy as well. Even my SC R/T is getting creamed left right and center by Toy's all over the place. Perhaps if I also add a shot on NOS things will get better but this truck is just plain pathetic.

Yea I can't find this website, but this guy put in Lexus injectors, different fuel system and upped the pressure. He changed his SC (Made the pulley on the SC smaller I think it was so It spins slightly faster) to up the presure a little bit and he gets like 300 HP out of his Tacoma or 4-Runner. Thing is mean. Doesn't run NOS. Tacoma's are the bomb (Have one myself :) ). They are light- but not weak at all. Can't compete w/ T reliability.
Parts cost more.. becaus they are better.

taco's feel like a tin can, and they weigh about as much as one. put a TuRD SC'd jap engine in a 4000lb truck and see what it runs. you would need juce to break the 14's

the only reason they are fast, is because they are light. i feel much safer in my 4000 lb dak. they feel like they are made out of pie tin.
I have betten several taco's. all were NA, and if i raced a SC'd one, id probably loose, and if i raced a turbo'd prelude id probably loose too. give me a supercharger and lets see who'd boss.

I've taken many a SC toy truck (they were the four doors,,as luck permitts I guess),,but they pull away at 100+ as I'm gov'd at 98/99. Sux.
I've got a '01 CC 4.7 auto 3.55's w/catback and new intake,,but I'm like in the LOW 15's,,,and have handed many a Toy his lunch,,never vice versa.
Is there a chart/webpage w/the numbers on these trucks? The REAL numbers?
Also,,,wouldn't it take a little bit MORE than JUST 300HP at the crank to push a truck into the LOW 13's? Does that sound odd to anyone else? I mean isn't Bernd pushing those same numbers, and still in the 14's (not disrespecting Berd in any way shape or form here).? Look at what Duner is pushing, and what it takes to be in the high 12's.

I dont care if the guy is running 10's in the 1/4, its still a POS import. 13's in a tin can are easy, try doing that to one of our heavy dakotas, ya know, a REAL pick-up truck.

Everyone else,
Has anyone ever autocrossed(SCCA.org) there Dakota ? Just kind of interested in how the DAK did. I have seen the Rangers and the S-10's race. This season I might give my DAK a try.

Who cares about the Tacoma, read the URL: DodgeDakotas!
There is nothing you could said about the Tacoma that will sway a real Dakota lover.
The Dakota has many good attributes over the Tacoma that I wont even bother mentioning because it's a waste of my time comparing these two Trucks. I'm sure the Tacoma Owner would said the same about there Truck.

gotta admit though...a tacoma interior is way nicer, like a car inside. I'm gonna have to put a lot of cash into customizing my interior to make it look nice. I would never buy a tacoma though.

I really like the size of the Toyota's cab compared to the Dakota. The Toy's MSRP really is attractive as well, and I hate having to haggle with a salesman so it's nice just to pay full MSRP like everyone else has to. Colors on the Toyota are sweet as well, so many browns, so little time... It's nice Toyota's pretty much never change thier style as well, in ten years your Toyota will still look pretty much like a current model, just with some minor surface rust. Forget the massive problems Toyota's have had with aluminum v-6 head gaskets on stock trucks let alone supercharged ones, they promise they fixed them now 10 years later. Plus you just gotta love the sweet buzz of a little Toyota v-6, Ahhh...

I can compare the two trucks as I drive both on a regular basis.
My truck: 2001 Dakota Club Cab 4.7L 4X4 Auto
My GF's truck: 2001 Tacoma Double Cab 3.9L 4X4 Auto
First, there is NO comparison in power, her truck is just as heavy as mine and has about 50hp less than the Dak. There were several times when we put our foot into it at the same time (both with me driving the Dak and driving the Taco), the Toy was not even close. The thing has NO power. Second, the interior in the Dak is much nicer. Hers looks cheap, you can't see the clock because the steering wheel is in the way, the stereo sucks (compared to the Infinity system in my Dak), the center console sucks, no goodies (like overhead console with computer). And it's not like she didn't spend the cash, these things are just not available on the Taco. All that and her truck was MORE MONEY! Granted she will probably have a higher re-sale and gets better gas mileage, but if I wanted good gas mileage I would by a Prius.

You can make ANYTHING fast if you dump enough money in it. thats why I'm not into heavy mods, cause it takes time and money of which I aint got neither. The Dak is a GREAT stock truck, looks a lot better than the Toys as well. Wish it were a tad more reliable though.
The only Toy I might even consider would be the Tundra. maybe.

About the only thing I like about the Tacoma is the 'stance.' I like the larger tires that it has (if you get something other than the basic version.)
And lest anyone label me a turncoat....remember, I bought a 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT. For about $2K less than a similarly equipped Tacoma, I might add.

And I WILL say that I can't really claim to be 'brand loyal' yet. I've had 3 vehicles from Saturn, Chevy and Dodge respectively. However, I definitely am having a LOT more fun with (and getting a lot more use out of) my Dakota. I like the way the Tacoma looks, and from what I understand, they're supposed to be fairly dependable as well. But then again, everyone says the same thing about Chevys, and at 40K miles I had lost the alternator, was losing the clutch, and the engine was starting to behave somewhat strangely; plus there was a nasty rattle coming from the front that NO ONE could find. For what I wanted (a truck larger than your regular compact), the Dakota fit it perfectly, and the Tacoma fell short.

I am a proud Taco owner. I say, that is a kinda slow taco only being in the low 13's. It is true though about the hp. 300hp is about right for them. On about 8psi. 10psi should be alittle more than that though. Hell my 4 banger taco is turbocharged and makes around 300 at the motor. I put down 242hp and 275trq to the wheels on 10psi on a dynojet. Best run so far is a 13.89@96mph and I missed 4th gear. Want to see my taco go to www.rcst.com and look in the import section to check it out. watch my 13sec run in our video section. Pay close attenion and you can hear me miss 4th. Want to see what a sixbanger on boost and NO2 can do check out this site.

i cant get over the jealousy of the dodge people. my dealership sells dodge and i could have had a good deal on one, but do i really want to keep bringing it into the shop for its yearly transmission? or do we really need to stop at the gas station every other day? i wouldnt risk a s/c on any dodge product let alone juice as well. face it, the japs have us beat on reliability. we americans are fat rats. if we put half the effort into our manufacturing and testing as the japs do maybe their wouldnt be so many toys running around. i love my s/c toyota tacoma. oh and the trd bolt on parts. really do just bolt on

Now that I thought of it, what country besides the United States has made a real Muscle engine? I honestly don't know because I don't know imports, but I would think that I would have at least heard something.
