Subject: Anyone's 4.7 Belt Squeal? IP: Logged
Message: I've notice on heavy take-off, and between shifts, as the RPM's drop back down,,, a noticable squeal from the serpentine. Is this common in the 4.7's? My friend says his QC4X4 4.7 does the same thing. Should I be concerned? Is this something I can take of? .....The belt looks, and feels fine,,,,and tension seems right. What's wrong?

Message: My belt squeals too, but only on left turns. I've taken it in but the mechanic couldn't duplicate the problem and said my belt looks fine.
Going to change the belt at my next service. Hopefully that'll clear things up for it.

Message: Yep mine does sometimes.. but only when it's cold. I tried belt dressing and that works sometimes but the point is it shouldn't be squeeking in the first place. AH I'll just get a super charger and replace the belt when I do that ;-)

Message: Changing out a serpentine belt is a five minute operation, and the belt costs under $20.Just change it! It's cheap insurance. The only tool you need is a 3/8" breaker bar, and maybe a pipe extension for the handle.

Message: I took mine back and it was because the paint on one of the pulleys was letting the belt slip since I burned the paint off from all the hard accelerations it has quit.
