Ram7,
Glad to hear you like you Chevy. I looked at Avalanches, extended cab fullsize chevy's, Yukon's, Durangos, Dakotas, and Ram's. (not a ford fan- Lightning and 64 cobra excluded.)
I was looking for a 4x4 with a back seat this go around. My last vehicle of ten years was a 4x2 chevy with a 350, 373 gears lsd rear end.
It was a quick little truck. I decided to go with Dakota quad cab. It fit my needs exacly. and for about $10,000 less that a chevy I don't feel bad customizing it. I added some custom racing buckets, rancho shocks and hotchis sway bars.
I never had my chevy dynoed but it would spin the tires through three gears. Both trucks are 5 speeds and the dodge is more than a little bit faster.

My point is simple, I love my dak even if it may be a toy in your eyes, and you love your chevy even though it is an over weight, highcentered cargo mover in my eyes.
Personaly I am thankful that we all have different tastes I don't want to see 150,000 trucks just like mine in my home town.

I don't mean any disrespect and I am sorry that you have had a hard time with trany's in the past.
Good luck with your new Chevy they are a sweet truck!
See ya in the dirt.

I'm a 12 year owner of a 1994 practically stock Z with 198K miles, and wheel often. For you people to even make this comparison is comical to me. First off, who races a Z-71??? For anyone lost in New York City, this is an OFF-ROAD vehicle. "Can I take a Z71?" Ha! Who cares what these trucks run in the quarter mile, but I'd take on any "Dak" or whatever you call them in the hills, or in the fun stuff. You guys sound like silly girls. Have fun with your loose, problem-riddled 5.3's. And enjoy the 60-80,000 mile tranny probs. I'm no die-hard GM fan. And my next truck will probably be a F-250, but you Dodge guys really need to look around. How many 10-15 yr. old Dodge trucks do you still see on the road... Think about it! My Best wishes, and you're welcome.

Ha! Who cares, four wheeling is for fun not competition. I go wheeling with a large variety of trucks and if you're doing it right it's about having fun with your friends. Any truck has strong and weak spots when it comes to wheeling. You sound like a beginner.

Formerly known as Ram7, the Z71 is still kicking butt and hasn't had to go to the dealer for anything. That's something I'm still trying to get used to. I was having to get warranty work on my Dodges at least 3 times a year. Z71...can't touch it!

Hehehe, you Dodge guys are hilarious. Ask any Chevy guy what the name of his repairman is... he won't know. I bet you Dodge guys can name one in 3 states. Everytime I take a Ford (I've never actually met somebody that like Dodges...) guy out in my Z they're really impressed (and one's got a Ranger with a lightening motor).

Also, GM does not offer a 3.9X rear end (a Mopar ratio). You can get the 3.42, the 3.73, or the 4.11... crawl out of your box (as stated earlier).

I could go on for days about personal experiences with Dodge trucks failing far before they should (you know usually in the first 20K). The only thing they have is a diesel, oh yeah, that's owned by Ford...

Hey jacob and any other chevy guy bashing dodges, If chevy's were so d*mn great, then there wouldn't be a single ford or dodge out there, because obviously people would want to buy the best stuff. I've never seen a perfect chevy, a perfect ford, or a perfect dodge. they simply dont exist. It also depends alot on driving habits. I'd trust my dodge to outpull a chevy of equal size anyday, but the chevy could tear it up in a 1/4 mile or in the hills. Last time i pulled something with a chevy i had to keep pulling over and let the motor cool. Isn't that just plesent. Chevy is no better than dodge or ford, and same for the others, just like i said earlier, if one of them were the best, then the other two wouldn't exist, due to lack of competition. Think about it. Besides, the cummins diesel... is Cummins. Not ford. Cummins.

well i have a couple issues, ive owned dodge's a 94 dak and a 91 1/2 ton. i didnt like either. but before then i had always been a chevy man and always will be. about the story with the brand new truck and the 454, Erik Wentworth, i dont beleive that chevy's brand new trucks have a 454 in thier line up, i know they didnt in the 99-01 line, just the 6 litre, now in 03 they have a 8.1 (? on the .1 part) i still dont think that equals a 454(7.2?) any how maybe it was just because it was chicks and didnt know what they had. however this is all suspision on my part i may be wrong. as far as things go why are you comparing a compact truck to a full size off road truck ? and check your stats about the dodge outpulling the chevy, chevy's payload and towing capasity is stil higher, as well as HP and torque. check the manufacturers websites. besides you see about double the amount of old chevy's on the road still running as you do ford or dodge. and fars the piston slap thing i had a 95 Z with the 350 no slap , now i own an 01 withthe 5.3 @ 125K no sign of a slap. i dont beleive it even exhists. the only known mechanical problem that i have ran into is the slip yoke on the transfer case, needs replaced with a nickle one. but any how theres my two ccents.
