Subject: 8.5 MM Wires IP: Logged
Message: I just installed the MSD super conductor wires on my 5.9. The suckers are so fat that they would not fit in the factory wire seperators until I used my Rotozip and made a few changes. I really would like to install some good wire seperators as I don't trust my "custom roto job".
I have headers and need the wires to be held up and away. However, with the the custom wire set, I don't have a lot of extra wire length. Also, the straight boots on the MSD wires are longer than the stock boots and they extend closer to the headers.
Has anyone used these MSD wires? What wire seperators work well with these larger diameter wires?
Thanks

Message: I bought the Magnecore wires, I preferred them over the MSDs which I already had tried.
Good luck,

Message: I bought the Kenne Bell wires and they fit in the factory seperators. It is a tight fit, but they do fit and stay. These wires are made by Taylor, and they seem to do really well. They only come in red.

Message: Justin
The MSD wires are very close in length to the stock ones. All were a little longer.
I am a little concerned with the extended length of the spark plug boot. The MSDs are at least 1/2 inch longer than the stock ones. Therfore, they are that much closer to the headers. I hope they don't melt!!!
I'm going to contact MSD and let them know of the concern.
If I do have problems with the boots melting, I'll post.

Message: I have them on my 93 5.2 and could make some of them fit on the passenger side. on the other side I just zip-tied them to a hose above the wires.

Message: I installed them on my '98 3.9; I didn't close the clips, just rested the wires against them to keep the wires away from the manifold; they haven't shifted and everything's been peachy for around 10K miles, including six runs down the dragstrip and the crappy irregular concrete roads here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. With the milage gains, I'd do it again in a heardbeat (SuperConductors) though the rest of my ignition mods have been totally useless.

Message: I bought the 8mm Accel wires for now and Moroso wire routers. I picked them up from Pepboys and they bolted through the bolts in the valve covers. They really helped out since they hold right after the boots, then turn 90degrees. They have 2 4wire seperators in the pack. The wire were cut to length by me (if you can splice a household wire, then you can do this to ingition wires, very easy). I routed them against the fire wall to keep from all that other wire crap in the back of the engine. I finally can live without fear of my wires burning on the headers.

Message: Those fat gray boots on the MSD wires WILL bend.Just bend them up and away from the headers.I also used some heat proof sleeves to put around the boots to keep them from sticking to the plugs due to header heat. Just get one of those 3' sleeves from Summit and cut into 8 equal length pieces. The Summit number is: DEI-010404 and it costs less than $20.
