However the 305 hp Mach 1 at $28K sounds like a winner, it's pretty much the Cobra without the blower.

Sorry. Save your money for the new GTO or something . . .

I don't suppose you have a new Cobra, do you? If not, then why not practice what you preach. I'm sure you probably couldn't afford the monthly payment, and I doubt the monthly insurance either.

I wasn't looking for a pissing contest, Demon.
I was merely stating a fact - a 305hp Mach 1 ain't sh!t by today's standards.
A stock LS1 will eat it all day long.
A SLIGHTLY modified LT1 will give it a run for it's money.
When it comes down to it there is nothing "special" about the new Mach 1.
You're better off with a new Cobra with a Lightning pulley swap done to it.

The "unworthy" Mach1 could only muster a 13.30@over105mph....
I've seen plenty of LS-1's run slower than that.
That's bang for your buck performance right there. The solid rear makes all the difference in the world. With 4:10 gears, the thing surely would have hit 12's. Mods are there for it too, same as the LS-1's. A buddy of mine is running 330RWHP in his 99 Cobra with bolt-ons, and running 12.90's. Chip, exhaust, timing adjuster, and mass air meter... Add a blower to that?? Probably low 12's-mid 11's...
So....I guess there's nothing special about the SS or the Ram Air T/A either?
Not flaming but these cars are definitely on the mark as far as performance goes. Most of these cars are faster now than the Muscle cars from back in the day. (with A/C, and a good stereo)
There will be a '03 Cobra in my garage after the Dak is paid for. There are people on the stang forums that are getting over 450RWHP with $1,200 worth of mods! I'll go ahead and prepare for the Roman noodles, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I'll be eating while I'm financing it.

Message: From what I hear, the Mach 1 is not the 32 Valve motor. It's just a slightly de tuned 4.6L 16V Cobra engine. Either way, it's a pretty cool car, even for a Ford.

Message: Mach 1 Engine Specs
4.6L displacement
single overhead cam (SOHC)
V8 cylinder configuration
gas engine
16 valves
305 hp @ 5800 rpm
320 ft-lbs. @ 4200 rpm
regular unleaded fuel
Cobra Engine Specs:
4.6L displacement
double overhead cam (DOHC)
V8 cylinder configuration
gas engine
32 valves
supercharger
390 hp @ 6000 rpm
390 ft-lbs. @ 3500 rpm
premium unleaded fuel
So the Mach 1 is not the same engine as the Cobra (minus the S/C).

Message: On the contrary my friend...
I've seen the Mach1 up close and personal, and talked with the techs surrounding it. It is a 32 valve DOHC motor.
A detuned 4.6 SOHC would be putting out under 260HP anyways.
In '04-05 Ford will be going with the new Lincoln platform codenamed DEW98 or something like that. The Mustangs are getting revamped with new styling, and getting away from the old fox bodied suspensions, and new powertrains....
There have been talks about a smaller displacement V-8 w/supercharger, and also talks of going on the 5.0 displacement as seen in the FR-500.
Technology is a wonderful thing! Give Kudos to Ford. They have set a new standard in todays automotive market. Now every other make will be competing and uping the ante on their vehicles.
Thus the new CHARGER is born. POWER for the MASSES!
