Subject: R/T wont go over 30 MPH? IP: Logged
Message: Guys I got a friend with a 98 R/T and he was telling me today that it wont go over 30 mph? I havent got any details yet but I'll post them later but what do you think could be the problem? The only mods hes got is a K&N air filter and a flowmaster custom exhaust thats it. I mean this thing hauled a$$ the last time I rode in it, and its done this all of a sudden? Any help is apprecited Id like to hear from anyone this has happend to!

Message: Is it a late 90's R/T? If so it's probably a broken baffle in the cat. They have changed the cat design on my new 2001 because of this problem.
The cat came apart internaly in my 98 CC 4x4 and it was very boggy and wouldn't do more than 50 KMH which is around 30MPH. It's sort of like a banana or patato in the tail pipe.
Good luck.

Message: I had a car that would stall out if you went over 35... ended up being a clogged fuel filter. There simply wasn't enough fuel getting into the system. Also check for low fuel rail pressure?

Message: I just had my cat changed out a few months back because It was comming apart internally. I didn't know that was what was happening until I brought it in for my A/C and they told me that. I thought the rattle was comming from a broken exhaust hanger or something. I wonder how many other people this has happened to?

Message: Ive been wondering what that rattling noise was on my 99 R/T. I also thought it was a loose or broken exhaust hanger. What did it run you to replace the cat?

Message: Had same problem on my old 85 Toyota, cat was clogged wouldnt go over 35. So I pulled the cat entirely, it was like having those four other missing cylinders back, (well not really) but it helped. Either clogged cat, Im guessing stumbling would be occuring b/c plugs, or fuel filter. my 2 cents

Message: The rattling is your cat for sure, and if the truck wont go past 30 and if it runs slow as hell, than your cat is clogged big time and i would suggest he get it fixed instantly before the crap gets into the muffler, it happened to me, i was on my way to the muffler shop and i floored it and this lil yellow geo metro flew by me, anyway, enough of that, my truck ended up shutting down right across the street from the shop and i had to get it towed about 100 yards

Message: Try checking your fuel pressure on your fuel rail. I had a fuel pump in GTA go out on me from work a few years back. It wouldn't go any faster than 20-30mph.

Message: Hey guys! I'm really glad I saw this. I have a '94 Dakota and it's been sitting an mainly used for hauling. Anyhow it runs great but it has that rattle your talking about. But it started dying randomly and then it wouldnt go over 35-40 mph. At first I though it was the fuel pressure regulator/filter so I raplaced that (not too bad of an ordeal, removed bed, LOL)fuel pressures looking perfect then running great then wouldn't go over 35-40. So if its a clogged cat I feel a little better. I was thinkin tranny.
