Subject: Auto or Stick IP: Logged
Message: I'm buying a 01 4x4 with a 4.7. I test drove an automatic but the dealer didn't have any V8 stick shifts to drive. I'm old school and like stick, not to mention the price difference. I was curious how they drive. Are the gears ratios tight and sporty like a toy truck or are they like a full size truck with a big nasty stick with alot of stick travel and lousey gear ratios.

Message: Get a STICK! They drive great. I have an 01 2wd 4.7 with 3.92 diff and a stick. Ratios are pretty good. You can get out of shape pretty easy in first and second. Hurst has a Competition shifter out for it in a month as well. Forget the automatic.

Most people like the automatics for "comfort"...but there's nothing like a stick...knowing what gear your in and keeping it there without the automatic making up its own mind. ;)

Message: Stick, the throw is long but Hurst has a replacement out for $176, shortens the throw about 50%.
