Message: I thought I got great gas mileage till I found this web site. I have a 2000 QC 4x4 and I lifted it 3in with a body lift, only because no one wil make a lift kit for the truck. anyway I only got 11-13 stock. Now I have put a airraid intake. 8.5 Taylor, wires crane cam electronic ignition and coil, high rise air tunnel and the so called tornato fan in between the intake and the air filter. I also removed the muffler and replaced it with a straight pipe for more ground shaking sound. Now I only get 12-18 maby 16. what a diffrence for under $1200. anyone have any suggestions for breaks??? I am going to put the powerstop drilled rotors on the front with their pads. the rear ???? and is the powerstop the way to go??

Message: Hi folks,
I have a 2001 QuadCab with a 5.9. I've
installed a K&N intake and a Raven cat back
system and I pretty consistently get between
10 and 10.5 mpg in the city. If I am very careful
with the pedal, I can get it up to 12 mpg.
Is there something wrong with my truck or am
I just a leadfoot???

Message: Just checked the first tank of gas through my new to me used 2003 Quad Cab 4X4 5.9L, it came with 6K miles of previous owner. I got 14.7 MPG for mixed driving conditions to and from work this week. A little lower than my 2000 Club Cab V8, but hey this engine is bigger than the old one.

Message: The Quad cab is heavier, a 4x4 has more wind drag from being taller and air hitting the undercarriage head on, and the 5.9. 14.7 mpg is pretty good considering.

Message: I get an average of about 30mpg on the highway and about 20-25, in town. But thats because I'm a litle heavy on the gas in town. Then again, I do have the 2.5L...

Message: Will using AMSOIL Motor Oils increase gas mileage?
Tighter government regulations and increases in engine manufacturers’ demands are calling for more fuel efficient lubricants. AMSOIL Motor Oils reduce friction and drag better than petroleum oils, resulting in significant fuel economy increases. In a recent 1.2 million mile demonstration, AMSOIL Lubricants showed a 4.5% increase in gas mileage. Other tests have shown increases of as much as 15% under certain weather and driving conditions. Yet, because every vehicle is different, as are driving habits and conditions, it is difficult to accurately project an exact increase.

Bought partly cause I was tired of having to keep the pedal to the floor just so my Ranger wouldn't get rear ended merging on the highway. 2500 miles, haven't checked mileage yet, but don't care that much. I know on this tank I topped it off so Ill probably be able to get a good idea of consumption with 60% highway/40% city when I go to fill up around the end of the week. Gets about the same range as my 4-banger regular cab stickshift Ranger got, but with maybe 10-15 bucks more per fillip, which is absolutely fine by me. 60 bucks more per month is a bargain when I consider the grin this truck puts on my face when I floor it.
As for EPA estimates... it's pretty silly to think you'll match them on right on the nose. It's not a claim Dodge is making, its a claim the EPA is making. They do it by putting the truck on a treadmill in a very controlled environment and simulating various traffic conditions with a tube stuck to the tail pipe. There's no way in hell laboratory tests could ever possible account for all the possible variables that exist when you actually drive the truck out on the road.
They can't account for your driving habits, how many hills are near your house, the exact angle at which you put the pedal every single time you accelerate from a light, the weather in your neck of the woods, or exactly what options and accessories are on your exact truck. So before you go thinkin you got a defective truck on your hands, read the WHOLE window sticker, not just the two big numbers in bold print at the top. Therefore if youll look closely youll see theyre not promising you particular mileage, but more along the liens of "Actualy mileage will vary with opions, driving conditions and habits, and vehicle conditions. But results from the EPA indicate it will get anywhere between 11 and 17mpg in the city and 15 and 21 on the highway." So the mileage figures that most of you reporting that have you all so worried are actually normal and well within range, and your dealerships are probably just humoring you because they don't want to upset a paying customer by saying "What the hell did you expect, if you want gas mileage you should have got a Civic".
