Just so everyone knows it is possible to lower a 4x4 Dakota. I have a '92 Dakota w/318 and it's actually lower than it should be for where i live. I am up here in Fairbanks, Alaska where traction can be an issue in the winter and there are quite a few gravel roads.

As far as lowering the truck you can crank the torsion bars down and that will give you almost 2 inches. Adding some smaller tires will also help a little. On mine I currently run 235/50/17 in the front and 305/50/17 in the back. Now I know it isn't good to run different size tires on a 4x4 but as long as you use 4 wheel drive as little as possible than it's fine. As for the rear, that part's easy. If you don't feel like doing an axle flip you can pull out a spring and grind out part of the spring retainer on the axle. You have a lot of spare metal there. This and the leaf spring can lower you up to 3 inches in the back. You can also install some drop shackles for the 2wd's and they work fine(you just have to install them upside down. After all of this was done my truck sat quite a bit lower and with the install of bigger antisway bars and ladder bars it handles like a dream.

If anyone out there kknows of a way to drop the front end more I'm all ears.
