Question about G-tech, has anyone compared a G-Tech 1/4 mile time to a real 1/4 mile time slip?

Message: I figure its all relative. If I use the same device (G-tech) on the same stretch of road in the same truck, at worst I'll get a relative view at how my performance is doing with the different mods. But the best time on the g-tech can only be acheived by having the perfect conditions. (acceleration vectors and all that)

Message: Cyberwolf, I bought it on ebay. It is the PVC piping connected to the throttle body with the air filter connected to the other end. It makes the truck sound good but it seems like the low end torque is gone. Is there anything that I could do like flash the pcm. If so how do you flash the pcm module.

Message: that is not a FIPK. K&N makes the FIPK. the ones sold on e-bay are verry poorly designed, and cost about $40-50 to make. the K&N system sould be A LOT better, and a lot more money. you get what you pay for (sometimes)

Message: There outta be an FAQ page. When I was looking for info on resetting the PCM, I swear Bernd must have posted, instruction on how to reset your PCM at least half a dozen times.
1.)Disconnect Negative battery terminal.
2.)turn your key to start (discharges capacitors)
3.)wait about thirty seconds
4.)reconnect neg terminal.
After the PCM is reset it may take a week or two for your PCM to "learn" your driving habits. Unfortunatly you won't know whether or not your mod worked or not til then.

Message: I've been on vacation and up to my a$$ in work for the last week so I haven't had time to test out the latest "homebrew" mods.
1.)Ground out all the baffles in the airbox
2.)Cut the front out of the air box.
I reset the PCM after I took the dremel to the TB.
Which brings me to my next question.
Would is this homebrew port and polish a bad/good idea?
I opened up the distal end with the grinding wheel tapering the entrence (about 1-2mm). Then ground the part that narrows (before the butterfly) out. Ground the screws flush with the shaft. Tapered the leading and trailing ends of the valve (with out removing any of the edge). What I was VERY careful about was not to mess with the valve/TB circumfrence, I left that part alone! Then just polished it til it shined!
Just wanted to know what Bernd and Matt thought out there. I report back How it's affected the perfomance once I get to drive it enough to reset the PCM.

Message: Dr. Q,
Did you know that the 2001, 4.7, comes with a 3.25" intake tube? If you put a 3" fernco on, you actually made it a little harder to breathe.
NOt sure if tha's what you had in mind.

Message: The 3 in ferco is actually a little biger than both the airbox outlet and the TB neck. As well as the airhat inlet and outlet. On the tb you have to make sure the clamp is pretty tight to get a good seal.

Message: Dr. Q,
And who says size don't matter. Just kidding, if it's not restrictive, than it must be OK. I've only installed a K&N element, and drilled the front and fender side of my air box some. I might go to a cylinder and fernco's soon, to get rid of the hat and air box.

Message: On my 4.7, it was quickest with the stock airhat/muffler part and a K&N filter on the end of the hose that comes out of it instead of the airbox. I had to put a short piece of 3" exhaust tubing to go between the filter and the hose from the airhat. I just zip-tied it (hose/filter) to the A/C lines and that put it directly in line with the incoming air from the grill opening. I experimented with a bunch of different intake designs.... and the stock airhat still ended up being best for mine.

Message: Dr.Q is sporting a chub the size of a Wisconsin summer sausage! The missus was at the hospital all day so I played with the truck. One of the bolts on the traction bars came off so I tighned them all down and raised the bumpers with a couple of washers. Washed it and took for yet another g-tech run hoping that the pcm reset had kicked in after reworking the airbox. Pulled a disappointing 0-60 @7.0 and 1/4 in 15.45 @ 91 (best of 3) I was hoping that I hadn't mucked it up and was kind of down when two very cool things happened:
1.)A shiny new eXtreem pulls up at the light and is reving and nudging the red light. I think what the hell I race him to 65. Jezz you figure with all that plastic those things would be faster. so at 65 I back off he's about FOUR truck lengths behind me then zooms past me like he's accomplishing something-too kew-el!
2.)I drive back home and decide to pull another run. 0-60 6.20 and 1/4 in 14.75 @ 97.1! a new Dr.Q record!
My homebrew intake is alot like Hawkeye's http://y42.edit.photos.yahoo.com/bc/callmecc/lst?.dir=/My+Dakota
but I cut out the front altogether and ground out all the baffles. Man, I was almost ready to put the airhat back on. Waiting on the PCM is really frustrating is there ANY rhyme or reason to it?

Message: Yea! I ran it without resetting the PCM. I reset the PCM when I placed the K&N drop in and fernco elbow. A few days later, I ground out the baffles in the airbox and ported the TB. So when the PCM kicked in I did one set of runs and droped my 1/4 from 15.12 to 14.78 and 0-60 from 6.75 to 6.23.
I should have done one mod reset the pcm than another and reset the PCM so I broke the scientic method-sue me. I was on vacation for a week and didn't drive much this week so tonights run was the first since I reset after the port and polish and airbox circumsicion.
Since the traction bars I have been able to get alittle (alot) more aggressive with the launches (2000 rpm and spinning through first).
Sure it's not a vette or camero-but for less than $100 in mods I squeezed some speed outta this here truck.

Message: Well I took out the dremel tool and ported the TB. Man live there was a big lip it, took me like an hour to fully port out. While I was there I took all the baffling out of the air box and lid another teadious job, drilled two 2" holes in the air box to let more air in, took off the 90 bend at the inlet, removed the flap on the right hand side of the rad and put in a drop in K&N filter.
Short term results are that this thing has more throttle responce. When you hit it now you know it, it has a pretty good howl. Sounds great and feels good so far I do not have a g-tech to prove anything though. Now next weekend is the IAT adjuster and the flowmaster cat back, off of my 97'. The exhaust will go great with the sound of the intake. I reccomend these cheap mods did the same on my 97' with the same results.

Message: God awful mess isn't it! I was wondering why they designed the tb with a narrowing before the butterfly.I was just pulling this outta my a$$ since I couldn't really afford to send out the tb, actually Lesley gave me the Idea. Reset the PCM give it about a week. The growl comming out from under the hood had me fooled. Once the PCM kicks in it really grabs you by the chochskis.I think The next thing is going to be the IAT (figure I'll give Bernd some buisness for all the advice he's cranked out)that, spark plugs, and thermostat.
I don't know about the exhaust. Most everybody with the 4.7 has lost performance with any exhaust mods. I can't figure why.
