Coming out in 2004, it is going to be alittle bit bigger than our Gen3s and look more like the Ram. Engines sizes are going to be for the base motor a new neon 4cly, then the 3.7V6, then the 4.7V8, and for the R/Ts the new HO 4.7 rated at 270hp. No hemis are planned for the next gen Dakotas anytime soon and it lookes like if you want a hemi you will have to get the new 2003 Ram SS/T. Got this from a pretty reible person that actually works for the Durango plant here in Newark DE and the Durangos are getting the same treatment in 2004.

They already make a fullsize SUV. You can find them in Mexico, but not here. They won't pass US safety restrictions from what I hear. Maybe they will bring it here soon.

That would make alot of sense, but I would have to think that they would want to have a faster r/t. I wonder which would be a better choice 5.7 sst or R/T? I don't know, but 2004 is a long way away. They should at least give us some sort of preview. They know they need something that will hang with the lightning and the silverado SS which IS comming out in 2003. Those will both be supercharged applications of at or over 400 HP. I guess the extra year will allow for the long awaited 5.7 supercharger SST and a supercharged neon. yee-ha

Great full size durango. Now you can go from 11 MPG to 4MPG... Also I heard they are going to make it electric/hybrid for 2004. So mabey you'll get back upto the 11mpg range except when you tow, go offroad, or go on the highway.

The 4.7 HO should be an awsome engine. The current 4.7 can set you back in your seat adding 40 more horses will make it awesome. Have heard that most of the HO parts will not interchange with the current 4.7. Damn too bad we have to wait until 2004!

I don't see why anyone would be happy about this announcement.

2004 Dakota: 270hp + bigger setup? Who say's that the R/T will come with a Stick? 270hp is only 20 to 25 more than what a they have now, then add some weight and your back to what you have now.

2003-4 SST GM: Auto, 5.3L 285hp, 3800-4000lbs new stats. No 6L 300hp, that's what my new Motortrend mag said. Nothing to worry about :) But still more than 270hp HO.

I think the 4.7L HO will be even harder to mod, since the HP per Cube is already going to be high.

Not giving the Dakota R/T a 5.7L will be a big mistake! Just like GM with the small 5.3L in the SST. I also wouldn't count on a 400hp SS Sliverado. SS for GM these day's are 20hp at most more than a normal setup! You might see a 300hp SS Sliverado but nothing near 400hp.

I guess Ford will still rule with it darn Lightning! What 380hp now, who nows how much it will have in 2003 or 2004. I know there working on a 400hp 4.6L Stang.

Yes, that's right F-150, a sh!tty imitation of the Phord 4.6 if there ever was one. Why, those MOPAR engineers tried and tried to produce an engine as unreliable and prone to piston failure, ring failure, and oil leaks as the Phord 4.6..and they couldn't even come close!

What a bunch of losers..and didja know (I'm tryin' to spel lik u sos ya unerstan me naw)that day acshuly rated the hersepwer consirvitivly? Nah, ther not as good as Pherd! Pherd hadta recall all them Rustang Cobras cuz they rated them too hi and they wernt puttin out anywers nere the power they said they wood!

Amen for that Fubar512!!. I don't like to put anyone down but I didn't like the assumption of F-150 about dakota owners being gay. So this one is for you "F-150" I'm sorry to burst you bubble but your so called f-150 is going to have more recalls than a taiwan made toy on the next three years. I know this because I know people working on quality control for GM,Ford, and Isuzu companies. Sure you may have a supercharged engine but what is the point if you cannot even use it. the minute you go over 90mph your f-150 is going to start shredding to pieces. I'm not joking I have a friend that has one; he tried to show me how fast his truck was but when he hit 95mph the truck started shaking like a spaceship entering the atmosphere. you could hear the rattling noise of the sheetmetal flapping like if it was paper. Ugly experience! he had to let go of the gas because he was losing control of the steering because of the shaking. I know what you are going to say; he problably had a suspension problem or bad tires, NOPE this was a brand new f-150 1999; back then.Since then I sweared not to buy a ford truck if I had to buy a truck. Just my .02 cents

P.S. excuse my grammar, i'm just typing fast. You get the point.

except for the fact that with the remaining 10 or so grand (40-45K from what I've heard) you could easily mod the lightning to run circles around that srt-10 plus have money for modding the looks. I hate to sound so shady on doges behalf, but lets face it bang for buck I think the lightning is a much better deal, now if they sell it for about the same price as the lightning which I don't think they will do, then that'll be another story

Hmmmm....Good point, Clevite 77. They would have to produce a LOT of aluminum V10s in order to drop the price down to Lightning level.

If they put a second v10 in the bed of the truck to run the back tires and have the v10 under the hood power the front tires then that would double the production of those engines as well as giving it a little weight on the back tires for better handling.
(I hope you realize I am joking)

you have to remember that it's not just the motor that costs 40-45K (rumored) it's the fact that corporate wants to be greedy and they can be cuz people are willing to pay the price. It probly cost them no more than 10-15K to make, if that. They take a $20K regular ram and drop the viper drive-train into it, add some wheels and suspension, a hood and stickers..... and charge us out the eegggghhmmmmm

If we get the SRT-10, then we could be in the place of someone like F-150. Saying that our SRT-10 is faster, and why would you spend your money on something as ugly as a Lightening. Then he will say, "well, i can mod my Lighting to be faster than your SRT-10, for less or even price". And then those people might finally see the perspective of standing in our shoes. We have a cheaper, slower vehicle in stock form, but has potenital. But since everyone on this board is reasonable, we won't be going to Lightening boards and telling them how slow and ugly they are.
