Subject: Question about check engine light

If I clear the trouble codes by disconnecting the battery, does the computer still "remember" - I have corrected the trouble code - I had to replace the o2 sensor.

Does the dealer do anything different to clear the trouble codes?

They just clear it using a scanner. Not really any different. As long as the problem is gone the computer doesn't keep track after it is cleared.

Also, If the problem is fixed, then the PCM will figure it out after a while without having to reset it.

Resetting is still the best thing to do though, that way you will know for sure that the problem is gone if the light does not come back on.
