S-10 4.3 > Ranger 4.0
S-10 4.3 < Dakota 3.9 and up
Dakota R/T < Ford Lightning
I don't like the lightning thing anymore than you guys but let's face it, facts are facts.

I don't want to say it but all thing being equal.
Dak 3.9 < 4.3 S10
The 3.9 Dak is heavier and produces 175HP. The S-10 is lighter and produces 180-190HP. They can be quick.
However
S-10 < Dak 4.7,5.2,5.9.

Speaking of that darn 4.3, be careful of those guys with it and not being the extreme. X-whatever is nothing but an exterior pkg anyway. My buddy just bought a 98 GMC ext cab 3.43, 4.3, open rear, and it can more quite quickly. If it wasn't for the fact that my truck weights 4500 and sits a lot taller than his, I'd give him good kick in the arce.

extreme = extreme waste of money! I traded my 98 s-10 for the 01 dak 4.7
my only competition is my pesky brother-in-laws toyota S-runner!
raced the other day and dak 4.7 = S-runner 3.9!
(lightning is excluded from the equation cause dakota is not a fullsize pickup!)

Those S runners are damn quick. A 3.9 wILL NOT touch a 4.3 S10. A 4.3 reg cab 2wd S10 with 3.42 rear is a quick truck, quick enough to hold their own with CC V8 Daks.I have a 01 S10 4.3 reg cab with exhaust and traction bars. The S runner is as quick as a RC RT...15.1 at 91 1/4 mile!A 4.0 ranger wont touch a 4.3 S10. A 5.3 Silverado would be close for a v8 Dak. Just my opinions

Brian D, are you saying a 2wd s-10 with 3.42 rear can hold its own against a cc dak that is 2wd and v8? If so, well...........lets just say your either uninformed or havent driven both. I have a 93 4x4 dakota with a tired motor and auto tranny and raced a 2wd s-10 tuesday night. I was speeding and he came flying past me so I caught up and we were next to each other at the next light. He had exhaust and it was dropped. I must admit it sounded good so I assume it was the 4.3 so I said what the heck. I killed him off the line and he never caught up.

brother smoked one in his s-runner, and I was
in the truck with him, adding another 200lbs.
There are about 6 punk kids that live close to
me with slammed 4.3 s-10's, compared to my
dak, they arent sh!t. I traded in my 98 s-10 for
my dak for one reason and one reason
only...POWER!
As soon as the s-10's are offered with the new
i6 4.2, then there might be some comp, still,
the 4.2 lacks in the torque department in a
major way.

can any of yall tell me why my truck is so quick yall are talkin about them lightings well i have a 2000 chevy ex cab with kn and thats it and the lighting will get me off the line but about 40 i pull up to his door and hang right there till 100 then shut off this is on the 2001 a run a 99 about 2 weeks ago and beat him about a truck leagth i run and my dad has dodge dakota 5.9 rt and i beat him pretty bad i run best slip 13.9 at 100 could have done it quicker i think but shut off two times

Let me inform you on some stuff. What are your specs? It seems like you have just a 3.9 V6, lmfao. If he is running with a programmer, 2 chips, exhaust, intake, throttle body spacer, electric fan/thermostat, and a short belt with no juice compared to yours which seems to be a basically stock 318 the way you talk, he will beat your ass, lol. But, then again if you have a 318, it will be interesting. An s10 extreme or an s10 with a 4.3 will beat any freaking dakota with a 3.9. I have an s10 with a 2.2 and I have beat plenty of 3.9's :)

I think your all full of Shi@. A 4.3 liter S-10 stock will blow the doors off of a stock V-6 Dakota.I know because I had a S-10 v-6 before I bought my Dakota & I beat pleany of V-6 Dakota's. As a matter of fact I'm gettin rid of my V-6 Dakota in the Spring of 2003 & gettin a disiel because the V-6 Dakota doesn't have any balls. Plus it eats gas like a V-8. And a disiel has a hell of alot more torque & you can do a heck of alot more mods to a disiel.

Whoever said the 4.2I Chevy lacks in the torque department needs to have their bolts tightened. Check the numbers on that engine again. (I'm talking to D I suppose).

TQ=275
Sure that's low compared to a 4.7L or a 5.9L Mopar, but it's missing two cylinders dude...

almost 250 ft/lbs torque, and that has 6
cylinders.
