Subject: 4.7 headers IP: Logged
Message: I installed my jba headers in july. Shortly afterwards I noticed a noise that sounded like an exhaust leak. It sounded like a baseball card in the spokes f a bicycle. The noise has been slowly dying out and I've made sure to tigten the headers and check on them every now and then. I can't find what the problem is. I'm going crazy. Also, when it's reaining out, the noise is almost nonexistant. Any ideas? Thanks

Message: BTW, I think it's coming from the collectors. In case this helps, It only makes the ticking sound when i give it throttle. It's mostly just noticeable up to 2200 rpms but i think it's because the engine rpms after this just make it difficult to hear the leak.

Message: Sounds like you have a flange leak. Usually when the collector is leaking the sound is more continuous vs a tick tick tick sound when one tube is leaking. I had a leak on my 4.7L headers when I first installed them. I have the Borla headers. I had to get a new gasket for the driver side. I used an old trick coating both sides of the gasket with a thin layer of hi-temp silicone. That cured my tube leak. Of course, remember let your engine reach temp once without load, then let it cool before re-torquing. I let mine idle in my driveway for 20 minutes or so. I haven't had a problem since.

Message: How much of a performance increase did the headers give and did the exhaust sound change?
