Those FWD BUILT TO THE HILT FWD bastards that can barely get into the 11's at the track are TRAILERED to the race track.

You can hardly find 300+ HP daily driven RX7's or Supra's, ect on the street.

Saying a 4 cylinder can make over 300 HP (for real) and be driven on the street is as beleivable as when people tell me their small block 350 CHevy makes 700 HP on a daily driver.

It just doesn't exist.

Those seriously built FWD's are stripped down and the bodies all modified and I mean SERISOULY modified to compete in the 11 to 10 second drags. And they don't LAST long enough to be driven daily!!!!

5.2 liter is the best engine. u get the hardcore old school magnum unlike the new baby 4.7. then u almost get the hp/tq of a 5.9. and the best part is the 5 speed trans.

paysonbadboy you got to know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. Supras are 320 HP stock and a friend of mine has a 600 HP daily driver supra. Check out the nissan sr20det. you want a daily driver 4 banger that can take 400-500 hp on the stock internals. Also look at the subaru wrx and what people do to there daily drivers. How about a 250HP 1.8T from audi. Again stock internals. and last but not least check out LoneWolf and his 2.2 s10 at 350HP. yes a truck on his stock internals (not daily driven yet, at least not til he puts in the forged crank). Don't tell me it can't be done.

Duner has a corrected 11.44 4.7! That sounds like the smartest tuned 4.7.

The guy with the 340 can probably break 11's soon. Sounds trick to me.

The other guys with the 360 doin 10's and 11's just sounds like research, money, and know-how.

And yes, there are plenty of 300, 400, and 500+ hp daily driven 4 bangers around that are probably built to outlast your truck, so hopefully we'll see some new topics.

I know of a person who's got an RX7 with a 1.9 rotary engine and it runs low 7s in the eighth, is twin-turbo, and is pushing about 500hp at the wheels. Daily driven.

And believe me, I doubt most of them could EVER dream of outlasting a Dodge 318 or 360! I have RARELY seen a Dodge V8 smoke with less than 300k Miles on it, and this is from experience. I admit, for today's standards the 318 and 360 doesn't make much power per Liter like newer engines do.

However, I see on a daily basis early 90's Honda Civics and Accords smoking like a B!TCH driving around Phoenix HA HA HA!!! So I don't know how you think bolting on mods or running them things harder could make them out last your Dodge trucks!!!

And the RX7? Cool design, but anyone who knows, knows those don't last long at all!!!!

As far as new engine designs go, I've never been a fan of VW's, but those compact VR6's and W8's look really cool. There's some serious engineering there!

I just got that 4.7 Quad Cab 4X4, and I could only hope that Mercedes V8 will last like the old school 5.2 and 5.9!!!

If a dude wants an R/T its because HANDS DOWN if a 4.7L and A R/T (stock on stock) roll up to a group of chicks.....which truck do you think they will like more? The ever so trendy 4.7L SPORT that their mother prolly drives to work or the bad ass 5.9L R/T (lower body, fatter tires, pimp alloys, fender flares) Both Trucks are quick but in the R/T you can utilize that extra hand ( the shifting hand for you 4.7s) for a little bit of stink finger action while your driving to the chicks place for a night cap…… so who is going to argue against that one…Exactly!

Hey I have 2 RX 7's and they never have and I don't think ever will make a 1.9L engine Rotory. They have a 2 Rotor 1.2L, another 2 Rotor 1.3L and a 3 Rotor 2.0L. One of the 2 I have is an 83 1st Gen that can turn 8's in the 1/4 and When we Dyno'd it in Dallas in 1999 it turned 795 RWHP @ 9,000 rpm's. It is gutted and weighs less than 1,700#'s, and it is no daily driver and never will be again. The engine in it was a '93 Twin Turbo, but has been modified and has a single Garret T-55 on it. The other one is a '93 3rd Gen that is twin turbo in full street trim that was dyno'd @ 395 RWHP and turns low 13's. Your freind that turns 7's in his twin turbo in the eighth has a 10 Second car in the 1/4, Hum, I don't see it not in a full street trim RX-7. Go back and recheck your freinds #'s again.

I read this and found it interesting about the new 4.7 liter.

"Buddy Revell pointed out that the new engine is "almost" a Hemi - "the only reason it isn't called a hemi is because the combustion chambers have a wall on one side that makes it look kind of like a flat tire. Other than that everything is in the same arangment. The valve springs are across from each other and the spark plug goes right down the middle."


Maybe our little 4.7 has some potential afterall?

alright, listen here. Stock from dodge, an automatic 5.9 is faster than an automatic 4.7 in ANY combo. There, I said it. Now, the manual does give the 4.7 boys a bit of an upper hand...faster than a 5.9, maybe. With enough money, either engine could be a 700 bhp beast. All I know is, while the aftermarket for the 4.7 is slowly expanding, the amount of parts available for the 360 is incredible. Mopar has been producing this engine for more than 30 years now, and thus, parts are more plentiful and cheaper. I bet given a $2000 budget, a 5.9 can be made faster than a 4.7. It's not that the 4.7's not capable...it is. Parts are just not as available as they are for the almost legendary 360.

Also, as for this "daily driver 700 rwhp" crap - guess what? You cant drive with slicks on the street...cause it don't work when it rains or when John Law happens to be watching. And I don't know anybody who can get 700 rwhp to the street without slicks. Yeah, yeah, I know all about street slicks...but they gotta be hot to work right! So assuming you don't do burn-outs at the intersections to warm 'em up...you're limited to about 12.5 sec. e/t's - regardless of h.p. or engine size, or anything else. And believe me, it doesn't take 700 rwhp to break into the 12's (Unless your car wieghs 6000 lbs and is shaped like a brick...)

Even small blocks with a blower usually don't even come close to 700 HP if they can run on 92 octane pump gas and be "daily driven". And especially a radically tuned inline 4 banger would have to be modded to the HILT with lots and lots of spray to get near those numbers on PUMP GAS and in no way would make a dependable daily driver! And that's the key. It's not the fact that you actually drove your built beast to Circle K and back because you took the chance, a daily driver is just that. It can be driven dependably every day!

Anyway. I wound up with the 4.7 just because that was what I got the deal on. I wanted the 5.9 for the fact that it's parts are more plentiful. But the 4.7 is a lot more moddern and could have lots of potential I think. It sounds pretty f#cking good with the flowmaster I threw on there as well. People do look when I start it and it sounds sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than any fart can powered RICER even tho mine is still stock!

Love the site about ricers, but there's one problem, they called an M3 with a spoiler a RICER.
I call that a car that'll kick your ass on ANY track. And do it for 200,000 miles.
