Subject: 4.7 Redline...?

Forgive me if this has been posted before, i'm relatively new to the forum.

I don't know about the 2000 models, but the 2001 4.7 does not indicate a redline on the tach...it shows up to 7 grand rpm...but no redline. Does anyone know the limit?

Everyone told me a while ago when I asked the same question that the rev limiter is set at 5500 rpms. I don't know about their trucks but my engine has seen 6200 several times (not on purpose) and I have still not hit a rev limiter. This aluminum head overhead cam motor should be capable of pushing up to 6500 rpms in my opinion because of the valvetrain design. It doesn't really matter though because the power drops at 5000 rpm anyway and there would be no point to shift at any higher rpm than that.

I also have no rev limiter on my 2000 4.7L, I have a governor at about 117mph too.

Really no rev limiter what-so-ever? So in first gear it just keeps going and buries the tach? It doesn't sound very idiot proof. I suppose DC will have to buy a few motors on warranty because somebody left it in first with their $2000 system cranked, and got on the interstate.

Well my tach only goes to 6g anyways, and I have buried it and then some , maybe like 6100 or 6200.

Well i saw a road test on the new ram with the 4.7 and it said the redline was 6000 rpm's. The govener should be about 120mph's for 4x2's and around 98mph for 4x4's.
