I just want to know if a Gibson cat back system on a 4.7 3.92 5 speed Will acually rob you of power and acceleration. Plus how does it affect gas milage and highway performence.

It will not rob hp or torque. So acceleration will at worst be the same as stock, at best a small improvement. When I put mine on I noticed an improvement in perceived power...it felt like it pulled harder, especially at higher rpm. My gas mileage stayed the same. Unfortunately I never took mine to the track before I put on the Gibson and Airaid, so I have no baseline to compare 1/4 mile times. But even if it did nothing for power, it sure sounds a heck of a lot better.

Im sure youd feel a little improvement. With a V8 you shouldnt lose torque like you would on a 4 or a 6. Even if you gain no performance, An exhaust is worth the sound. I dont have a Dakota yet but I want to get one in about a year or so. A friend of mine has a white 98 5.2L CC. He cut the muffler off, and ran two pipes out back, each pipe splits into 2 and they all have tips. All tips are real close together in the middle. They poke out from under the roll pan. Its the best sounding exhaust ive ever heard.

Good luck,
Joey

I noticed a little bit of an increase (mostly above 3,000 RPM) of power with a Gibson single 3", but when I installed a free-flowing intake, not only was it LOUD as a Shop-Vac, but there was a major LOSS in torque - it took WAY longer to climb the RPM's. Go figure. I kinda thought that the intake would improve the bottom-end!

Oh well...... back to the stock intake.
