Subject: Help choosing a Gibson, please. IP: Logged
Message: Hello everyone,
Last year, I bought myself a 2000 4X4 quadcab with the 5.9L V8. Since then, I have been considering a cat/back exhaust system to beef up the sound of an already beefy engine. After checking through many of your posts, and learning some important information here and there, I am still left wondering which exhaust will be best for me. Can anyone give me some insight into which Gibson sounds and feels the best? Like everyone else, I am looking for that deep, throaty sound with a little extra volume.
When I visited the Gibson webpage, I noticed that the dual sport (side swept dual exhaust) offers a somewhat aggressive sound. Can anyone confirm this?
I like the look of the dual pipes and hope that they will produce the sound I want. What I also noticed, though, is that Gibson advertises the single side swept system as the only one that is recommended for off-road use. Now I am not a hard-core off-road guy, but I do like to get out in the dirt or snow on occasion. Why souldn't I go with the more aggressive sounding (dual sport) system? Is it that much less equipped for 4X4's?
I noticed, too, that some of you have mentioned group discounts. I would love to get in on one of these for a Gibson exhaust.
Has anyone had any complaints about Gibson? I haven't found one yet. I am open to suggestions on other brands.
Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John Bennett

Message: These exhaust are all the same. they use the same muffler anf then exit differently. I am not positive so dont get mad if I am wrong. buy whichever you feel is the coolest exit

Message: I have a Gibson swept side cat back. It is super throaty(is that a word?)on my 4.7.They say its the best power producer out of them all but who knows. I do have a small leak from the head pipe to the muffler which I'm going to weld when I put my headers on. In other words, make sure you weld it once you decide how your going to set it up. Exhaust leaks are not throaty.
Speaking of headers, any one know if there are copper or other high end gaskets for the 4.7? I have the JBA's but I've been putting off installation for that reason.

Message: I've read that the single side exit produces the most torque, because it allows more back-pressure to remain. The duals (sport or split) seem to be the better choice for higher RPMs and motors with LOTS of mods (TB/headers/blowers, etc.). I have the single, and I'm satisfied - a moderate "throaty" rumble without being too annoying. I did have to weld everything, though.... those clamps are pretty worthless (I broke two bolts and it still wasn't tight).

Message: I have the split rear system from gibson and I got it off of carparts.com 4 $430.00 shipped to my door and then it took 1 1/2 hours with the help of my dad to put it on. But seeing how you live in Calif. I'd go with the allum. I went with the stainless as I live in fcked up Mn where the salt and winters kill our cars and trucks. But go with the split rear system my truck at idle sounds like I kinda have headers the only thing is you have to get your own tips I got the intercooled ones from borla because I like how they look and the are suppose to help the exhaust breathe better.
