I thought it was moved up higher by .125? I don't know of anybody that has actually held a 4.7 piston in hand. Maybe Bernd, but he seems to be missing lately. I wonder how much $$$ to order just one from the dealer to see what all the fuss is about, hmmmmm.

Alright, I measured the piston ring hight to the top of the piston came out at right about .125" or 1/8". The piston ring width is smaller than the previous engine as well .059" or about 1/16" compared to 5/64" or .078". They are cast flat top pistons. Hope this helps.

TRW makes a replacement piston that has the rings lowered a bit. It is their replacement piston for the jeep cherokee.

I had to restore my system due to worm virus. I nolonger have the site. It was posted here on this board months ago. It was an article about the 4.7 liter engine and it's specs. and development. That article mentioned that TRW's replacemnt piston for the cherokee has lowered rings to increase durability. If you contact TRW I am sure that htey could help you out.
