Subject: air intake noise IP: Logged
Message: I just put a Gen II K&N Filtercharger on my 3.9L and I noticed that I can hear the air being sucked into the engine. Its not so bad while accelerating, but while cruising-or just giving it a little gas,-its really loud. Is there an insert or something that can tone things down a bit. I don't really want a new throttle boby beacause I'm thinking of swapping to a V8 and I don't want to spend the money right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Message: it's normal, there's nothing you can do about it unfortunately this is one of the draw backs when you get rid of the stock air hat. Try a 10" round air filter on top of your stock throttle body ( you know the carburated type ) that noise is really loud especially with the a/c on. The stock air hat kills all that noise unfortunately you can get rid of it unless you go back to the stock air hat. One thing you may wanna check is to make sure the gasket on top of the TB is seated right and that the k&n unit is seated right and not sucking air from underneath it at the Tb i had that problem on a friends dakota and it was really annoying and loud, i just repositioned the air hat and made sure it was sitting right and clamped it down good and tight and it went away, still makes a bit of a whooshing sound but nothing major.
