 Subject: 440 In The Dakota

I have been looking around at some sites for a 440 block and engine components. I was just wondering what you guys would recomend. I am getting very close to having time and money to put a 440 in my Dakota. My goal is to hit 600 bhp and at least 600 ft-lbs torque. What type of cam would I use, and what type of heads with wich block?

Look in back issues of car craft. They had an insert with how to get 500 or 600+ horsepower (streetable) out of all brands of blocks. The 440 was in there.

There's a guy here where I live who has a 96 dak ext. cab and he put a 440 in his truck and he had to take the cab off 6 times and massage the fire wall with a B.F.H. a couple of times to get it to fit but when it was done it looked and sounded sweet!!

Look into the 500 ci stroker kit and a set of Indy heads. I'd contact one of the companies that sell the heads and tell them about the total package for cam help. Those aluminum Indy heads run almost $2000 for a complete setup and the stroker kit and block about the same. It still would make more power and cost less then a crate 426 or 500 Hemi.

Mopar Performance has a number of different crate motors ready to bolt in and go. I would look into them first. You might also check into the 408 stroker motor that Hughes Engines builds. From what I hear, they are awesome in a Dakota, and bolt right in with few modifications.
