What do you mean by PCM flash. Did you send your pcm in to somebody and have it reprogrammed? or just go to the dealer and have them do something to it?

I went to the dealer to have trany serviced/fluid/filter changed. They told me that my trottle body need to be cleaned badly and my PCM needed to be flashed. The dealer said that flashing the PCM would stop the pinging and improve power. I was wondering should I see improvements right away after the comptered is flashed with new information?

Ugghhh!!!

I really hate hearing that! Either they are (the dealer) that stupid or they knowingly lie!

It might stop pinging, but it certainly won't make more power. They basically retard the timing. That kills power, makes driveability suffer and hurts fuel mileage. So the real truth is that you won't see any improvements....

The other problem is that the retarded timing is just a band-aid for whatever is making the truck ping in the first place.

Which engine do you have and how old is it in miles?

I have a 3.9 V6 1998 with 38400 miles. My original problem was when the truck was not in overdrive(overdive button indicating off), it would labour after coasting then accelarting. IT seems like the tranny did not downshift for the drop in speed after coasting, when engaging the gas peddle. This only happend when overdrive is turned off. After having the trucked returned from dealer, it cost me $260 US and still does the same thing.
