Subject: Has anybody removed their pre cats? IP: Logged
Message: I'am thinking about removing my pre-cats on my 01' 4.7, and installing a high flowing one in place of the last cat on the exhaust. Has anyone done this, if so how do you like it, does it give any more HP, and TQ, or is it just plain out, not a good idea. please replie
Thanks, Justin

Message: I thought about it for a while. The 4.7 needs backpressure. I just wanted to completely remove the last cat (3 way cat). It will make it louder and it may feel faster but in reality it may have lost 4 hp and 6 torque. The only way to know for sure what it will do to performance is to dyno before and after. "Butt" dynos aren't a good way of testing. I will be using a dyno a lot pretty soon but I wont have the time to check that out.
Just to give you an idea on how sensative this engine is to backpressure; this engine gains more hp from a single 3" cat back than from a dual cat back system.
Shops around here are always running deals like 3 dyno pulls for $45. It would be worth it to find out what works best.
