Subject: Roller rocker question for Eric IP: Logged
Message: Eric, I saw your post regarding the 1.7 roller rockers.
How "easy" was the install? Was it basically removing the valve covers and replacing the rocker arms? Did you have to replace the push rods also? Did they self adjust? What brand did you go with? Approximate cost?
I read somewhere (in a sales ad) that you can expect 30-35 HP increase??? Did you experience a notable increase??
Thanks
Bill

Message: i went with the mopar 1.7's. i talked the sales guy down to $300 for the kit. they come with rockers, studs, guideplates, pushrods, and all the hardware. that is cheaper than just the crower rockers alone! ONE BAD THING...the MP rockers DONT COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS.
here is what you have to do. set the engine @ TDC on the compression stroke. unbolt the stock rockers, take out the pushrods, install the new studs (the jam nuts that come with the kit suck, i wen to kragen and bought new nuts) tighten to 20-25ft lbs of torque.
install new pushrods, slide rockers onto studs, and there are cirtain rockers that have to be tightend down when the enine is like this (i have to get my dads book and let you know the order). after thoes are tightend (set valve lash to zero and turn the nut 1/2 of a turn more). turn the crank 1 full turn (which would turn the engine 1/2 turn) and tighten the rest.
after that turn the engine over by hand to pump up the lifters and try to start it.
when i did mine, i didnt notice that much of a differance. latter i found out my cat was bad, and when the dealer replaced it...holly sh1t!! my truck MOVES now.
Eric
ps if any of this dosent make sence, let me know ill try to explane it better, im wrighting this fast because i need to go to work

Message: Where can you get the 1.7 Mopar Rockers (web site) I'm a little worried about my dealer and performance parts. I can't find any info on any rockers other than Crower. PLEASE HELP!

Message: I found the roller rocker kit on Mopar.com.
P5007404 1.7 ratio
P5249800 1.6 ratio
Is there much performance difference in the 1.6s and 1.7s? Why choose one over the other? Mopar apparently recommends HP (high performance?) springs with either rocker. Did you change springs or cam? Did you have to change/modify valve covers?

Message: the stock rockers are a 1.6 ratio. the mopar 1.6 is a roller roller rocker. maby 8 hp because of the less friction than the stock rockers. the 1.7 actually opens the valves farther (like if you changed to a slitly bigger cam).
I did buy the MP springs and retainers, but have not installed them yet because i need to buy a spring compressor...the stock springs work good for the 1.7's though
i went with the MP valve covers because the look better, and also because i didnt want to spend the time and take out the baffles on the stock covers.

Message: If you buy the Crowers, they are stainless, not aluminum, much better longevity. Stainless does not "work harden" and fail down the road. You do not need to remove the baffles, just adjust them about a 1/4" and they work fine. To properly (and easily) adjust your new rockers do it this way. Use the exhaust opening/intake closing method. EOIC method. Turn the motor until the exhaust valve is just opening. Adjust intake rocker 3/4 turn, tighten. Turn motor until the intake valve is 1/2 to 3/4 closed, adjust exhaust rocker 3/4 turn, tighten. Do all rockers this way, adjust baffle, assemble motor, enjoy. Roller lifters need .045 to .060 preload. You get the proper preload with 3/4 turn, not the 1/2 everyone tells you to use. With 1/2 and the 1.7's you will get lifter noise. Good luck.

Message: If you have no noise, and it runs fine, don't worry about it. Just my advise on the install to use 3/4 turn.

Message: Try www.manciniracing.com they have almost all of the MP stuff listed with a good price. They don't list the 1.7:1's yet but I bet they have them. The complete kit on the 1.6:1 rollers, pushrods, guides, and studs is $278, the 1.7:1 may be the same. I would only use the 1.6's if you were changing the cam, otherwise the 1.7's and the stock cam probably isn't as good as the R/T cam but is easier to install and saves about $100 in parts. I think I'll go save the $100 and time and get 90% of the power in the cam with the 1.7:1's as well. I think I also want that sleeper look of the stock valvecovers and will keep them.

Message: Hi
I am about to buy a 60's Mopar with a 413, roller rockers, but apparently it also has a noisy lifter, is it likely that particular rocker may have come loose.
I didn't think roller rockers made any noise.
Not too sure weather to drive the car back 5 hours or trailer it? or just a quick re tighten
What do you think?
Thanks, Grant
