Well, first off the alternator generates a higher amount of current than base. That means it is presenting a higher load resistance to the belt driving it. This means it requires more from the engine, leaving less to transmit to the rear wheels. How much of a hit do you take? I dunno. The other component is a stronger battery, which may possibly weigh more. You won't notice it much in performance though.

But let's not forget the PCM controlling the alternator output. It's not always going to be charging so the load (which is almost minimal) won't affect performance.

As for the battery, no big change in weight either.

(I have the HD Towing/Electrical/Cooling Package on my '97 Dak.)
