Message: Yeah baby! Just tried my 2 week-old truck to top speed and I'm one of the lucky ones with the limiter set at 115 mph! One thing that I did notice is that my rev-limiter never did kick in in the lower gears. I took it to 5700 rpm and nothing.... I heard that it was supposed to kick in at 5500 rpm. Is that correct?
Have fun and truck on!

Message: Mine is 115 too, get ready for the nay-sayers, all the nannys who'll tell you what a menance to society you are for going 53% over the speed limit. The same thing as going 38 in a 25 mph zone, like that doesn't happen everyday. I was a little hesitant to run mine to 115 but we only receintly got the speed limits back on Montana interstates, and that 200 mile drive on them after I picked up my used R/T was just too much to resist. I also had to stop and try some 0-90 mph blasts on the way home, I love these trucks!

I think at 110, I am turning about 3500 rpm.. could be wrong, been awhile since I went that fast =]

Message: One night we went to find mine, assuming it is 117 because thats is where most 2x4s are set, 4x4 are a 95mph because of bigger tires and such, got up to 110, but back off was scaring the sh$t out of me.

Message: Hey Jacob, mine is a 4x4 and the limiter is at 115. I think that the difference between the ones that go to 117 and the ones that go to 115 is the speedometer accuracy... Just a guess!
Another thing, my Dakota felt rock solid all the way to the speed limiter and with less noise than my Neon (by a long shot).
I love this truck....

BTW. Some modified Dak's (not that heavily) will put down the stock Vet's, not in top speed because of the aerodynamics but in the 1/4. Good luck with your Corvette,

Message: I think another post pointed out that the speed limiter was set by the ratings of the tires on each truck. Not sure this is true but it made sense to me. I have a 2001 4.7 Quad cab 4x4. I had it up to around 115 and didn't hit the limiter. Ran out of road and had to back off. The truck is totally smooth and stable at 115. Amazing for a truck in my opinion.

For the record a stock C5 Vette will run low 13s. A stock Z06 is going to run 12s I doubt a slightly modified Dakota will do that. I know this is the Dakota forum but let's not get carried away. And yes the Viper will kill my Vette. Love my new Dakota. It hauls a$$ for a truck which is one of the reasons I bought it.

Message: A stock vette could be put down by a moded dak. First of it would have to be a 5.9 because i dont even think you could do this to a 4.7 yet. But you would have to put a lot of work into the engine. It would be one of those engines that hardly idles but screams at WOT.

Message: Who said it has to be a C5 Vette that is stock? Just go back to a regular automatic 95 model and your talking around 14's, go back to 1978 where the fastest production US car was not the Vette but a Dodge truck!, the Little Red Express to be exact! (all 1/4 miles times in '78 were to sorry to even remember!)

Message: I happened to glance down at my speedo
today and it was at 100+/-. The funny thing is I
was being past by several cars. If your in So.
Cal. the 71 freeway between Pomona and
Carona has the highest average speed I know
of.
Anyway the coolest thing is I was just driving. I
could have been going 55 or 65. Even at 100+
the drive was as smooth as silk.

Anywho, I have done 118 in my 97 dakota and 131 in my SS camaro. I need to find a smooth empty highway real soon before I put my camaro away for the winter, I have the urge to bury the 155 speedo.

Message: No I haven't beat a vet Tom. Once the project is further along yes I will start beating them. Not all obviously but most absolutley.
Mod fo mod the Vet will win I have little doubt but most are owned by yuppie mid life crisis guys and aren't modded. Anyways for a truck the V8 Dak's are very fast nobody will argue with that.
