Subject: My truck and i are not getting along

Ok here is my deal, i was on my way home from work and this da*n truck would not get traction whatsoever (oh yeah forgot it was just barely raining too) It's a reg cab 2wd 3.9 v6 5sp, i tried everything to get it to not spin but all it wanted to do was incinerate the da*n tires every time i turned or took off. Mods on the truck are custom air intake ( if you want pics e-mail me and i'll send them) B&W cap and rotor kit, accel 300+ plug wires, msd 6a, dynomax muffler p/n 17733, bernd's Iat adjuster, autolite 3923's. The truck is pretty quick for a v6 i have not seen another dakota around here with a v6 that can come close too it. My question is would maybe traction bars help out because i live in CT and if this thing is that bad in the rain i can imagine what snow will be like. I hear everyone complain about there v6's but i can't complain about mine it's quick, it will spin the tires at 2500 in first gear just by hitting it to about 3/4 throttle on dry pavement, bark 2nd hard, and chirp third. It's just mind boggling that it does this that is why i bought it and at just over 15,000 brand new i couldn't go wrong with it maybe my truck is just a tuesday truck and everyone else may have gotten a monday or friday truck who knows any help would be appreciated thanx.

Jay, if anything you need better tires, not traction bars. Don't underestimate the beginning of a light rain - all the oils and grime on the road get wet and it gets really slippery sometimes. Michelin X-Ones have worked well for me, but if you get on it at all, well, welcome to a rear-wheel-drive truck. It's the nature of the beast.

In the snow, put a few bags of mulch or equivalent back there over the axle to add weight and traction to the rear. My father got through the Ohio backroads every snowy weekday that way in his '92 Dakota for years. I drove about seven miles on almost pure ice with an empty bed (though the 4-wheel ABS sure was nice) while watching FWD cars figure skate unintentionally here in Dallas last New Year. You just have to get to know its limits and drive smoothly.

And not stop when going up hill. :-)

I totally agree with Zaurusman... been there! The first week I owned my truck I did a near 180 turning too fast in a light rain. I live in Canada, so it gets pretty nasty, ice blizzards etc. Those invicta tires are terrible! Check out the tire post elsewhere on this site. Bags of sand over the rear wheels in winter are a huge help too.

I have the 4x4 and it had the stock Wranglers on when I bought it. I hated those tires. I have had them on other trucks and my experience has been the same. They wear quickly and wet traction is awful. I couldn't avoid spinning the wheels in the rain. I got a good set of tires and its not nearly the problem it was. I can actually drive on wet pavement without spinning the tires.

my truck is a 2001 dakota sport it has the 16" alloys with 255/65/16 goodyear eagle ls-a's they seem to be good not wearing funny or makin any kind of noise they are quiet and smooth plus my truck also has the handling package with the rear sway bar. So i'm clueless but thanx for posting i'll have to look into those tires some more too i mean come on i got 8 inches of rubber on the road and the truck has the 3.55 with the anti spin guess that doesn't work very well and i wasn't even gettin on this thing at all today

Or, just learn how to drive it. You know, revving it up to 3 grand and dumping the clutch is not normally how one would operate a stick!

yeah i cruise the pike once in awhile but not too often, i work too much ( gotta feed my beast you know ). Anyways i live in norwich and i hang with a car club out in groton my buddy has a 4.7 black RC dodge motorsports truck it's got the black alloys with the goodyear eagle 1's in yellow writing. To answer your ? quik v6 i know how to drive just fine i happen to be a professional truck driver so please do not tell me how to shift, when you can double clutch 16 gears let me know ok and i do not beat on my truck at all so winding up to 3 g's and dumping the clutch is not what i am doing. Problem is when you take off from a light and start rolling at about 10mph and ease into the throttle the tires break loose maybe your truck doesn't do this but mine does, why it does this is beyond me but the truck is exceptionally strong and i even had a service tech say he has never driven a v6 that had as much power as mine does he said i must just be one of the lucky ones. sorry about any possible flames but i'm kind gettin tired of the rips on the v6's i bought my truck because the 3.9 has been around forever and is a reliable motor and at 15,434 after everything where was i goin wrong when the same truck as mine with the same options but with a v8 was 18,000 and there was no haggling about price.

my 2 cents thanx
